There are two caravan parks in
Broken Hill.
Lakeview is on the
Sydney side of town. It has grassed sites and is a bit quieter because it is a bit further away from the highway. It is also on a part of the highway where trucks are not working hard either at stopping or accelerating.
Broken Hill Caravan
Park is on the
Adelaide Rd. It is a nice
park but has no grass. The
camping sites are covered in bark chips/mulch. It is next to the
cemetery so the neighbours are quiet but there are quite a few trucks past the front
gate. If staying there I would ask for a site back from the road.
The amenities in both these parks are relatively modern, clean and tidy.
Penrose park at
Silverton also offers
camping. It has basic fascilities and provides a
park that is closer to
bush camping. You can have a fire I think if you want. It is a bit cheaper than the CV parks in town.
Personally I would stay in town and visit Silberton rather than do it the other way round.

Hello Rona,
I'm not sure what you're looking for; sounds like you want a
free camp. However, if you're looking to
camp out of town in a national
park, I'd recommend
Mutawintji NP to the north. Lots of
well-set-out
camp sites to suit caravans, camper trailers and tenters. Each site has a fire place (BYO wood). Good
water supply,
toilets and showers (mostly cold). Electric barbecues are free!
Plenty of walks, some to see aboriginal art, flora etc. The fauna and birdlife come to visit your
campsite! You can hook up to a tour of the best aboriginal art sites ; contact Tristate 4WD in
Broken Hill as you pass through for information and bookings.
From Mutawinji NP, you can head further north to either of
White Cliffs or
Tibooburra.
Do a Google Search for more information.
Cheers,
Netnut

Aye...
That would be
PENROSE PARK...
Signposted on the right about a km after you pass the Camel Farm...
But DON'T pass the camel farm - go in and have a ride on a camel and a yarn...
