Some friends are touring in the area this June/July and are wondering if the Dawson Developmental Rd between Tambo and Springsure is suitable for a caravan. The road looks OK on the map

Have not been on it for about 7 years, towed our off road camper along it was ok. It will depend if it has been graded since the summer rain, I would give the council a ring at Tambo or Springsure to find that out. If they do go tell them to have a stop at Salvatore Rosa National Park, the road into there should not be any worse, also call N/Ps on that. There is a short cut out of there to Tambo but I would not suggest using it as when we went that way we came across lots of bull dust.

The road is normally Ok if you take care on the section east of the range. The Tambo end is alot better. I did a lot of work on the road after the 08 floods but there was a lot more to to. As it is a Main roads road, the council (springsure) can generally only fix the life threatening sections until main roads release flood funding.
Once you get east of the Cungelella rd (the turn off to salvator Rosa) it improved dramatically unless floods have washed it away (again). The last 55km before Springsure is sealed.
I haven't worked out there now for 18mths but I would be surprised if much has changed.

Watch out for bulldust holes and triple road trains carting in and out of cungelella rd up to Tambo.

It was closed till the end of March this year due to all the rain and flooding in the area. not sure what damage was done to the road.
