Hi All,
I am planning a trip from
Sydney to
Perth in November and was wondering what the best
places to stop and see are along the way,
camping grounds and best route to be taken, gear to take.
This will be our first long range trip in our Hilux so we are looking forward to it.
Any suggestions would be great.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you.
Cheers,
thehutch

I would recommend some time on the Eyre Peninsula, especially
Port Lincoln,
Coffin Bay and
Streaky Bay in SA. In WA I loved
Esperance,
Albany and Margaret River. I don't even like wine much, but when in Rome. We had a ball.
There a heaps of great spots, just depends on your taste.

Best route- are you wanting a quick trip or do you want to go through the Riverland and
Adelaide? If you do not want to dally in eastern SA then go via Dubbo and
Broken Hill. You can then slow down at
Peterborough or some time after that and spend most of your time over in the western half of your journey.
Camping grounds. I would not worry too much about these. I would be more inclined to wing it. This gives you more flexibility. Get yourself a copy of Camps Australia Wide and plan a few days ahead. However if you are stopping at
Ceduna I would suggest staying out at
Shelly Beach caravan
park and not in town. To get to it,
take this route..
Things to see - I agree with diverting through the Eyre Peninsula if you have the time. If not then a quick trip through
Fowlers Bay is a good diversion (in and out on separate roads.) You will be too late for whales but a trip out to a few of the ocean lookouts between Nullarbor
Homestead and the border is worthwhile.
Best value fuel across the Bight - fill at
Penong and
Mundrabilla and only splash and dash at the others to carry you through. At
Norseman, go into town and fill at the Shell near the info centre.
Useful web site

Thanks for the advise guys.
We are taking about 4-5 days to get there and 4-5 days backand staying with family when we get to
perth.
I will check the websites out and go from there....
I have heard about that golf course, wow it is big, I would love to have a hit but will have to do this on the next trip.
Thanks again guys.
Cheers

Doing the trip in 4 - 5 days you are not going to have much time to look at anything. On thing to consider is going via the
Norseman - Hayden road one way (but check the condition if there is rain around). It is generally good gravel. It will provide a bit of a change of scenery

Thanks bgreeni, We will keep this in mind.
I know we are not giving a lot of time to do this but we will have a little more time on the return journey.
Best Regards,
Chris
