Can anyone tell me if there are any flights over lake Eyre that leave from anywhere in either the Flinders or Gammon Ranges. Originally I was going to come down the Birdsville track but seeing as though we have a camper trailer we now have to come around through Innaminka and I don't think I'll bother going up to Marree just to get a plane ride.

Cheers

I recall seeing flights out of Wilpeena when I droped in on my way up to the cooper. Not sure if they still are but worth a call.

Friends who were at the Flinders last week reported flights over Lake Eyre at $700 per person.
They advised there were also flights from Rawnsley Park.

There has been a thread on here in the last 2 or 3 days to the effect that some enterprising person is now using a quad bike to enable people to take their trailers across on the Birdsville Track punt. So you probably could come down the Birdsville Track as you originally planned.

I crossed the the Cooper yesterday on the punt coming from Birdsville and was lucky enough to drive straight on. The Bridsville track has been closed for the previous few days due to the rain and I spent 2 days sitting by the side of the road waiting for it to dry out and to be reopened.

~~~Regarding the use of a Quad bike to get trailers accross. The local station was doing it, but someone complained and that was stopped since yesterday. This is the present position unless it gets changed in the future.~~~
While I was there, there were about 6 vehicles waiting to cross from the southern side.
780LL - check with the caravan park in Birdsville as you may be able to fly from Birdsville down over Goyders Lagoon to Lake Eyre. This is a very interesting flight as we did it last year as well as a flight out of William Creek.
Thanks for the replys guys / gals but looking at the size restriction on the ferry we wouldn't be able to travel that way at all so an alternate route has been hatched where we either travel down the Cordillo downs road to Innaminka or go the long way around through Queensland. It's a real shame that the powers that be couldn't address the ferry issue as I'm sure there's a lot people travelling that part of the country at this time of year that have trailers or vans that may be turned away by not being able to complete the full trip.
All the best
