Just had our Challenger's first new car ( 1500Km) service, only to find out that they don't change the oil and filter.

According to the service manager, it has been preservised (oil change) before delivery, and should have its next oil change at 7500 Km.

Is this common practice, or is the dealer taking short cuts.

Cheers.

It is common practice.

They usually check that nothing has come loose and that fluid level are right and that's it.

Hi,
I have been contemplating getting a challenger & would be interested to know what you like/ dislike in the challenger.
have you towed anything yet?
have you taken it on any dirt tracks and if so did the tail end drag into the ground ( ie is the departure angle okay with a tow bar on )
how do you find the engine noise inside the car, loud, quiet or okay?
Which model did you buy?
cheers,
Horseshoe

Hi Horseshoe

I got the SE 7 seater automatic.
Having come from a Ford Escape, I find it a bit trucky/heavy/bulky, but it is very responsive if required, I find it very comfortable for medium sized people, and still can fit grand kids and luggage.
As far as fuel consumption, It is realy good ( under 10/100 in town/Sydney)
When It comes to towing, we have only towed a 4mt aluminium boat, and a Tambo camper, not had the chance yet to get it on the rough roads, but looking forward to it.
I had trouble getting an after market tow bar fitted that was tight against the spare wheel. not many on the market at the time.
The engine noise is loud at first but quietens when warmed up and is realy OK.
As I have only done 1500 Km. I don't have too much information yet, but I am very happy with it .
Cheers Robert

you can ask them to do it and they charge you, that is what i do. when i take the new Hiace in i will do the same.its first is at 1k,currently 550km. i dont like whatever they use in them at the start. its way too thin and watery similar to a running in oil i guess.

Spot on Paul and Mel, I do the same. Usually if the dealer is a good one, they'll only charge you for the filter and oil and FOC on the labour.

Fisrt service as previously said is for checking suspension torques after a settle in period and making sure the tyres, and other components haven't developed leaks.

It's also the most common time for people to bring squeaks and rattles and water (rain/car wash) leaks to the dealers attention.

Fab.

hi escapesvil
if you drop out the running in oil too early
and even if the dealer does it for you
you could void your warranty with mmal if something goes wrong before the first scheduled mmal designated oil change their good at twisting and riggling out through the smallest loop hole that you would be creating for themso beware what you do prior to the first oil change
hope the challenger auto does'nt suffer with the same problems as the latest triton and pajero auto's
where the throttle body and the intake manifolds severly coke up with carbon from about 50th k's onwards and have to be modifyied under warranty or out of your own pocket if out of it
the problem was dicussed on here in last 2 weeks i think
cheers and good motoring

Hi mazcan

I have understood that is a problem with 3.2Lt diesel not the 2.5Lt.

I hope I am correct.!!!

Cheers and thanks.
