Hi All,

We're presently in Hughenden, inland north Qld, and interested in heading into SW Qld to check out the desert country in bloom.

I've checked out the RACQ and ExplorOz road condition pages and it seems the road from Longreach through Stonehenge and Jundah to Windorah is now open. But these reports are very sparse and don't give much info on the actual road conditions. 'Open' could mean just graded and smooth or open but rough as guts due to several roads trains of cattle having come out just as soon as the crossings were low enough.

So, well-travelled ones, have any of you been from Longreach to Windorah and/or Windorah to Quilpie and/or Quiplie to Thargomindah lately? Please, only reports since the last significant rains in recent weeks. Many thanks.

Ian,

Try this website for road conditions

Up to date as of this morning for most of the places you wish to travel.

I forgot to add.

We met a couple from Tassie last week in Eulo who had travelled from Quiplie to Thargomindah- Eulo towing a caravan with a Pootrol so this time last week that section was OK

Cheers Kev

Hi Kev,

Thanks for that. Hadn't seen the 131940 site before. However it's still just open/closed info with no info on the actual road surface. The info on the caravanners at Eulo is interesting, thank you.

Hughenden toMuttaburra has been closed for nearly a week , is open now to 4x4 high clearance , Muttaburra to Longreach via the Cramsie rd the graders have been out today , still some water but nothing a 4x4 cant cross ,Muttaburra to Aramac = bullock ck was .6 @ 9am this morning and falling , stiff winds all day today helping to dry out the roads , rainfall records going back 130yrs at 1 station show that its not been the wettest September but close to it and that it has rained on more September days than ever before.

Hi Alloy,
Thanks, that's the sort of first hand info we were after. We're taking the Kennedy Dev. Rd. from Hughenden to Winton, then the Landsborough Hwy. to Longreach. It's south of Longreach towards Windorah that we are seeking up to date info.
Thanks,
I & A
