Hi everyone

First post as new around here. Just getting into 4WDing at the age of 52

Bought what I think is a bargain. 2000 model 105 SE Ultimate Landcruiser

First I had to work out what the SE was. After some research I realise it's a GXL special Edition 50th Anniversary model
Leather seats, electric sunroof, cruise control, deep dish toyota alloys, toyota tow bar.
It's got a 4.5 litre petrol , travelled only 220,000 kms and I got her for $15,400
Not a mark on the white duco, interior spotless and according to my mechanic who just serviced her, never looks likes it even been off the bituman. Bought her in Sydney from Graysonline Auctions and had to drive her back to Adelaide in one hit (14 hours and when I hopped out it felt like I had just driven down to the shops and back, very comfy)
Stupid thing is as I was about 10 km's from home and about 3 am in the morning, my hand was fiddling around with the Auto shift lever and I felt a button on the side, I pressed it and 'Whammo' dropped the revs down to about 2400 (was about 3200) Duh !!!!!! Overdrive .......
Just drove 1450 km's from Sydney and NOT in overdrive.......hit me with a dead fish later :-) Thought it sounded a bit revvy ....hehehehe ! Pays not to take off in such a hurry and get to know your vehicle first.

Anyway ...... is there anything I should know about this vehicle as a first timer ?
Know problems and issues ?
What sort of life should I expect out of the motor (very regular with servicing and careful with my vehicles)
Is there a good spot in Australia to get good prices on parts ? (Gen Toyota seems to want the earth)
I do need to replace the bonnet struts as I nearly brained myself as the heavy bonnet landed on my head when inspecting the oil, any suggestions on cheapest place to replace them ?
Have been reading through some of the posts here and it was interesting reading the petrol V diesel debate. Even not in overdrive I was getting around 15L per 100 km sitting on 110 in cruise. Not too bad I thought. Should drop down even lower in OD

Thanks for taking the time to read.....

ebay sells the bonnet struts, just search 100 series Landcruiser, and they come up in the list somewhere.

hi eyspy
driving home at such high revs for that many hours should have got rid of a bit of soot out of the the entire system and probably did some good rather than hurt it
its all a learning curve ah!
cant help with the gas struts
cant beat the old type bonnet props they just never ware out and never need replacing and saves going to the gym lifting it up and down lol
cheers and happy 4wdring

There is a guy down at Glenelg who will do a changeover with the struts.
Strut re-gas or something like that.

Look in Yellow pages or google gas struts.

Hi mate,
I bought mine off Ebay for about $60 for the pair delivered to my door they are about 3 yrs old now and are still working great and for parts I always call Don Kyatts first as they have saved me a heap of $$$ in the past on gen and non gen parts.

Cheers John.
