Hi all

Looking for suggestions for some spots to camp during school holidays anywhere south coast-ish.. Not looking at getting too far off the beaten track, but would love to find somewhere that isn't too crowded though this may be wishful thinking.. we have 3 kids so beach/lake/river access is always a bonus..

Not asking much am I??

Open to all sugegstions, even if it is Big 4 style thing..

Cheers and beers
Rich

G'day Rich, I think you have answered your own question really. Any other time
I would have directed you to Murramarang or Mystery Bay or Greenpatch etc but
I fear your chances of getting in at any good spot at this late stage are virtually zilch. Perhaps a ring around may find something. Good Luck.......oldbaz.

Shallow Crossing on the upper Clyde west of Termeil is a great spot right on the river and surrounded by bush.

Hi RichieK, Moyura Heads primitive campground (north side of the river) is a great place for family camping. Right on the beach with the river along side and also a long rock wall to fish off as well.Camp fires are allowed (go for a short drive to get wood). Generators are allowed. Also pets on leads. $15 per night per car (might be a bit dearer during xmas hol's). Flushing toilets, cold showers, no power, drinking water and bore water available. Only 7kms back to town for supplies etc. Very scenic place. Nice long beach. Small airport is nearby but nothing to worry about with noise.Boat ramp is only a short distance away. Caretaker comes around every day.

Cheers Gary.

Hi Gary,

I guess you mean Moruya?? Just thought it may make it easier for Richie to follow up if he is interested. Hope you dont mind me correcting you on this as I only mean to be helpful.

As you say, it is a great place to stay, although we havent been there during Christmas Hols. Would be kind of busy I would imagine like anywhere along the coast but also considerably cheaper than around $45 to $50 per night some of the caravan parks charge during peak season, at least in Kiama.

regards,

Heather

Moruya as mentioned above and Mystery Bay, increase to about 25 bucks a night during peak season. This is for two adults. Kids are an extra couple dollars.

Up until News Years, Mystery Bay is packed. After New Years people start going back to work, which will be about the 4th next year. After that there is usually only a handfull of campers. If you are there during New Years, expect fireworks on beach.

I've been told Moruya is similar. Busy till New Years.

Will be in Mystery Bay myself with one child after the New Year.

Hi RichieK
Pretty much all of NSW south coast is delightful in summer - tho the caravan parks get pretty pricey. Big 4 in Pambula for instance is about $1000 week for a caravan site!!! I kid you not, I did have the right amount of zeros.

Jervis Bay - gorgeous waters
Nelligen - Big 4 on the river there is excellent for kids 8kms to Batemans Bay
Tuross Heads - nice peaceful spot
Mystery Bay - stunning
Tathra - great playground/skate park for the kids & excellent bakery for the grownups. Good fishing off the wharf too.
Meekathara - quieter & pretty at the Bega River
Merimbula - heaps for the kids to do, tho very busy in summer
Pambula - Big 4 is a destination in its own right, need nothing else
Eden - not as much a paradise as the name suggests.
Boydtown and Twofold Bay - very pretty and quieter.
Head just over the border to Mallacoota or Wingan Inlet for some good fishing, pretty sites and only nature to play with. Much less crowds. The kids will love the 1metre goannas that walk past your tent.

I guess your best plan is to choose what you want to kids to experience.....theme parks or nature or a balance inbetween...and then choose the venue. All the beaches are very nice.

Happy holidays!!

Hi RichieK,
Have you heard of Coolendel?
Used to go there many moons ago when my kids were little (now in their 20's).
http://coolendel.com.au/

Beautiful stretch of the Shoalhaven river. Some gentle swimming pools plus option of rafting on lilos. Real easy and fun. Many fond memories.

By 16th Jan it will be quieter, I'm sure. I agree everywhere on south coast is "manic" just after Christmas.

Enjoy the break where ever you go.
