We are going to the Pioneer Park at Riana, 25k from Dev. Thats after a night crossing. Was going to Mersey River C/p but this one is community run & looks
like a good base for a few days. Nothing flash but has all we need. Sailing
Feb 5th.........oldbaz.

Hey oldbaz,
I catch the boat over on the night sailing of the 5th. I'll be driving a silver rav 4 towing a camper with a hobie kayak on it. I'll keep an eye and wave as I board lol.

Here

or Here
are both very close to the ferry.

I have only stayed in the second one in the cabins which were very nice.

Cheers

Personally I would reccomend not staying in either. the caravan park at latrobe 10 mins from devonport is cleaner and safer, read into that what you like. Seriously for the gateway to tasmania from the spirit of tassie it is pretty average. The rest of tassie is awsome.

If you are self-contained, go on to Latrobe about 15min towards Launceston. There is an overnight stop there.

After getting off the boat, we drove on to the Big 4 at Ulverstone..from memory, about 25 minutes from Devonport. A nice park and not crowded. Yes, we did not get booked in until about 7pm, but we were glad we did it this way.

On the way home, seeing we had to be lined up for the boat at some ungodly hour in the morning, we stayed in Devonport at a park very close to the ferry!! We were disappointed with the state of the park. The amenities blocks were attrocious, but who knows, they may have spent some dollars on much needed upgrades since we were there 2 years ago. Wall to wall people too, but it is a captive market so close to the departure point.

There is also a very basic overnight stop behind 'Andy's Hot Breads" in Westbury, about 45mins from the ferry. Wake up to fresh bread and a pie for brekkie. The bakery used to be a 24hr place but not sure now.

You'll be through what I call Tassie immigration (basically an eco check of your vehicle) by about 7:30 am or later so there is no need to stay in Devonport. You'll either be heading east, west or south so wherever your first port of call is I'd stay there. You can head west to Stanley which has a great van park and you' be there by mid morning. Heading east or south your options are limitless.

I agree that the Big4 at Ulverstone (on the road to Stanley) is a great place to stay.

When I tour Tassie I base myself in one place for a few days and venture out from there. Unlike touring the mainland everything is within a relatively easy drive so take advantage of it.

If you want to PM me I can add to this. You'll also find a few threads on touring Tassie on this forum that are really helpful.
