Hi all,

I'm after any advice for putting an Innerspring Mattress in my Jayco Eagle windup camper trailer.

Can anyone recommend a brand, model, suitable height, supplier, anything?

I don't have the luxury of visiting caravan or bedding shops - so will most likely have to order the mattress over the phone - thus any information will be much appreciated.

Thanx in advance.
Soreback

PS - Ive done the eggshell thing (although they should be called egg cartons) Im looking for something more comfortable.

Gooday,
May I suggest you buy a GOOD QUALITY Foam Mattress at AT LEAST 6 inches thick, you will not only save on weight but sleep very comfortably.
Cheers,

I would not reccomend the 6" foam mattress as i tried that in my jayco swan and the extra height would not let it close properly an when travelling in the rain i ended up with soaked mattress and lounge

i used a medium density 100mm foam from Clark Rubber but then found i needed a breathing mat underneath so a spring mattress is the way to go !! buying the breathing mat was 2 arms and 2 legs so the cost of a spring mattress was about the same !!

Vanrest custom make matress's to suit your needs. They supply to the caravan & camper industry as well as direct to individuals. They even have a new innnerspring matress coming out shortly that can be rolled up. They are in Melbourne.

Latex bedding co in Dubbo NSW do custom mattresses.
Innerspring with corners cut off to swag matts 2" thick up to 8" if needed using high density good quality foam and latex. They can ship to just about anywhere.

Hi We have a Jayco Eagle and found the foam lacking , I tried to get a thicker / better mattress but found you cannot close the top,
we have got a double Egg Crate foam double overlay which is 45mm thick and we trimmed to th width of the bed, and we just roll it up to carry and put it on when making the bed it is really great to sleep on ,

We have just completed a 6 month trip around Oz, before we left we bought a memory foam mattress topper from Clark Rubber. It is approx 2 inches thick. We found this was great and we did not have a bad nights sleep from the mattress.

I got the following info from someone called WARRIE. not sure if he still hangs around here or not. i had a jayco swan and was also interested in an innerspring mattress. he told me about one he ordered that fit and was the solution for him. i ended up selling my swan before buying one. anyway the details he gave me are:

the mattress is called PERFECT CAMPER
made by BEDS DIRECT
Factory 1
86 Wedge St Epping Vic 3076
He said in the end he saved $50 on the price Jayco at St Marys in western sydney quoted him

hope that helps, cheers

+1 for the Perfect Camper mattress....The service by this firm is outstanding. I ordered one just prior to Christmas and it was made and delivered to me in Queanbeyan with 6 days. Not cheap @ $520 delivered but the quality and comfort is superb. By buying direct from the factory you will save a little to as a mate bought his from one of the Campertrailer manufacturers and had to travel to northern Victoria to pick it up....for $600.

I have investigated the replacement of an innerspring mattress in our Camper with a Queen size high density foam mattress from Clark Rubber.

They are available in different thicknesses between 100mm - 200mm but the 100mm thick mattress is the one I have "tested" on the concrete floor at Clark's and selected for my replacement project, when my better half has given her seal of approval.
The cost for the 100mm queen size foam mattress is $160.00

The foam mattresses are lighter and don't "bottom out" like the innerspring one does when you kneel on it, getting into bed.

After suffering a back injury in 2006 and subsequent spinal surgery to remove 2 discs i would be very interested to know what you finally settle on as your new mattress and what the results are for your sore back, cheers....

They are made to fit the Eagle not bad quality about 100mm high.
Our camper is a 2001 Eagle and we have slept on them a far bit since buying them and have found them to be OK.

Also for your info I have just checked the bolts that hold the roof onto the steel rising poles and found two of them where broken.
They are easy to replace I would suggest that you check yours.
