Hi guys,
We are heading off from Adelaide to Alice Springs in May 2011 for a 2 week break. We are taking 2 vans and one camper with experienced 4x4 drivers. Also taking swags so can leave the vans in Alice and do some overnite trips .

Just looking for some top places we should not miss. 2 of us have done the following before. Happy to redo these places for the one who has not been to these spots
The rock, palm valley, Boggy Hole, Chambers Pillar, Rainbow Valley, West Mcdonald Rangers. Kings Cannon, Old Ghan railway line etc.
Happy to redo these places for the one who has not been to these spots
Just wondering if there is any other special places to see while we are there.

The daily gathering outside the bottle store at Heavytree Gap can be a visual experience

You have certainly seen a lot Patrolmann. You are welcome to look through my blogs from 2008, but apart from the in-town places such as the Desert Park (take a whole day), i think i can only add Henbury meteorite craters and Gosse Bluff impact crater to that list. Yes, and the East MacDonnells - just lovely. We included a day at Arltunga historic gold mining reserve and a few Aboriginal rock etching sites (east and west) as well. We spent five weeks in and around Alice in 2008.

In the East MacDonnells - N'dhala Gorge, Cattlewater Pass, Ruby Gap (where you can use your swags). To the west of Alice is Mereenie Loop and all the gorges. Have a look at our blogs from 2001.

Enough around Alice to keep you busy for 2 moths. Have a great trip.

Cheers,

Val

Hermansberg is always an interesting experience....although I hear Yaris has just blown through and created $3 million worth of improvements....oops.

Will strongly second that I have seen tidier city dumps than that place.

Perhaps it was Yasi LOL

Only Falcons and dunnydores in Hermansberg No Yaris's LOL

Also the Transport Museum on southern outskirts of Alice.

Make enquiries before taking the vans on the Mereenie Loop - can be VERY rough.

Plenty to see around Alice.

Have a great rip.

cheers,
