Hi All, we're heading off for 2 and a bit weeks of touring end of next week, travelling from
Gold Coast through outback QLD to see
Kings Canyon, Uluru then down to Lake Eyre and up through
Birdsville. Getting to the point... we've just found out we are able to leave a day early, thinking we will either spend a night and day in
Winton QLD to see
Lark Quarry - or hump it to Alice and get to spend a rest day there rather than just a stopover. (Meeting travelling companions in Alice so day we leave there and head for Kings is fixed). Would appreciate any thoughts as to the best use of our extra day of holiday!

Winton / Lark Q for
mine - do the Alice and surrounds with an appropriate time allocation when you can get back there.

hi Vin,
I am presuming you have looked at where
Lark Quarry is in relation to
Winton, it is not just on the outskirts of town though.
Well worth the effort to see
Lark Quarry mind you, and
Winton is a beautiful town full of very nice people.
Waltzing Matilda centre is a must if you have time......beter than Hall of Fame in
Longreach if you want my opinion. Musical Fence is a classic, Bladensburg NP is lovely and then you have the drive out to Policemans
Waterhole and all the other dinosaur stuff in
Winton to help fill in time.
Winton has a lot to see and offer for tourists, but then I am sure an extra day in Alice would be easily filled too.
For me
Winton would be my extra day but I love the place and may even try to get back there again this year for the Outback Festival they hold every second year, 2yrs ago it was fabulous.
Enjoy, Trevor.

Thanks Trevor - sounds good... looks like it might be
Winton for this trip, and yes aware that
Lark Quarry is
well out of town, but a shame to be so close and drive right past by the sound of it. Cheers, Vin

As said you need more than a day to
Alice Springs justice.

Vin and Lisa,
I would spend the extra day in
Winton.
Lark Quarry is great and takes up about half a day. That gives you some time to look around the
Waltzing Matilda Centre which I think is superb. You could spend the whole afternoon there. I know you don't have the time but in fact you could spend a couple of days easily in
Winton. For a small town there is a lot to see.
Regards,
Bob

Hi Vin and Lisa
You are planning a lot of travelling over a short period. I would concentrate on Central Australia this time, and spend a week or two around
Winton and
Boulia another time.
The first place we went to in Alice was the Desert Park. We love nature and spent the whole day there. Rim walk at
Kings Canyon was one of the best walks of the region. My
blogs for 2008 when we spend five weeks in and around Alice are loaded here, but i haven't done much of the 2009 trip as yet, which included
Winton and the fossil country.

Thanks Motherhen, appreciate the advice! Definately trying to pack a fair bit into too short a period of time... the perils of only 4 weeks a year annual leave I'm afraid! Thanks and will
check out your
blogs... Cheers

An extra day , spend it in
Boulia , MinMin Light centre leaves the
Waltzing Matilda centre in
Winton for dead ,
Boulia also has Dinosaur Dick Soutar at the Museum , what he don't know about dinosaurs isn't worth knowing.
