G'day all, just seeking advice for a suggested route from Wagga Wagga to
Birdsville for the races for a quick trip as some of the crew are short on time, we are 4 drivers & will take as long as we need to get there without compromising safety. I have been to
Birdsville a few times before from Innaminka 'n
Windorah - but never from this direction. These old
pic's were taken in 1995 when I did
Brisbane -
Birdsville - Maree -
Adelaide -
Broken Hill -
Louth -
Brisbane, all in 6 days, great trip then as the roads then were not as good as they are now! thanks, hoo roo........Image Could Not Be FoundImage Could Not Be Found

Great photo's, and in a standard car to boot.
Nowadays you cant do the BVT without a 4wd decked out with thousands of dollars of mods and satellite technology.
Reminds me of our long distance trips in the HQ.

Dingo,
its between 1950 and 2000Km if you go up the
birdsville track or in from charlieville.Google says 27hrs driving either way.
all depends on if you think you can do better average on the hardtop v the dirt
personally i would go west then up to maree and via
birdsville track as i think you can average better than google estimates on that trip.they are saying 10 plus hrs maree to biirdsvile which is way over the top.
longest its taken me was after EO gettogether in 2005 when we came down the morning the road reopened and towing camper trailer in the mud it was under 7 hours with lunch stop at mungerannie pub.
why not do the round trip and come
home via
windorah,
charleville and down the tar.
cheers

Dingo,
west from Wagga to
Renmark then thru
Morgan,
Burra,
Orroroo,
Hawker,
Lyndhurst, Maree. basically thru the flinders.
I have found this to be near idendical driving time from
Canberra as via
Griffith Hillston, Ivanhoe
Menindee Broken hill Petersborough onto Maree.
fraction longer but 250 km less dirt road so same travelling time.
cheers
Howard

cobar, tibo, innaminka, cordillo is just over 1900km so yes shorter but google travel time is 12 hours longer ie nearly 39hrs.
also the santos , orentos road to innaminka has been regularly closed over last year or so.
i have wantedto go that way last 2 trips to
Birdsville but have been forced to detour.
if you want a quick trip you have to make sure roads are going to be open. cheers
