I'm wondering how accurate these map planners are.
I should be towing a van behind a Dmax and I thought the best way from Campbelltown to
Narooma would be down the freeway to
Goulburn, then down to
braidwood,
Batemans Bay and then
Narooma.
The map planner has other ideas. It wants me to go from Campbelltown to Bowral, then Nowra and down the coast to
Narooma.
It reckons that it will take me an hour and 22minutes to do the 85km from
Goulburn to
Braidwood,, on the map it looks like a fairly straight road.and no hills.
Can anyone tell me who is right?

Hi boo boo,
We live on the south coast and would come across Picton Road to the Freeway north of
Wollongong, down Mt Ousley and then follow the Princes Highway through Nowra and further south.
Not sure whether it is the quickest but if you go via Bowral to Nowra you have two sections of winding slow road down and one up as you have to go through Kangaroo Valley and Barrengarry and Cambewarra Mountains so I cant see that being the best. It is very scenic though.
If you take the road from
Goulburn to
Braidwood you will encounter the Clyde Mountain to
Batemans Bay which is a pretty good '
hill' and slow until you get to Bateman's Bay.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Heather

Hey Boo, the Clyde will sure
test the pull & pull-up of that cruiser for you. You may like to jettison a ton & a half of cargo before you get there...lol

The road through Kangaroo Valley is narrow and has semi trailers that use it all the time, So need to be careful on the blind corners and keep the uhf on scan as I can't remember what channel they use.
Cheers Dave.

G'day Neil
How does a sandgroper know about a
hill in NSW? LOL
Dave,,, and Neil I thought this would be a staight forward question with an easy answer. The decision just gets harder.

My sister & BIL live at Tuross Head, just south of Bateman Bay so I have been up & down that "hill" a few times. Lynne still gets the shakes whenever she hears the name...lol

Sorry about the late reply Neil but, I've been a bit busy lately to get to every thing, only just catching up.
Do you want to email me your address and I'll put it in my
little red book?
I realised my mistake while I was in the car thinking about what I had to do on my 1700km drive from
Roma to
Sydney and back.

HI Booboo
"85km from

yep its a dead easy drive but the Clyde Mtn is after that, arguably a fair bi easier to negotiate than the Kangaroo Valley Rd and if you take the Clyde you'll be most of the way Sth to
Narooma by the time you get to
Batemans Bay. Its all downhill from there, so to speak.
If you want as flat as possible I would say the Picton Rd too, but down through Nowra can be painfully slow dependent on time of day.
If you like the easy driving, I'd be going all the way to
Goulburn before turning left (then again my mate who drives to Huskisson a lot swears by the Kangaroo valley route , even though he's halfway to
Sydney by then...)
swings and roundabouts...
good luck !

Boo Boo
I drive Huskisson to Ingleburn & return regularly (3/4 times a month) & there is not much difference in klms if I go Picton rd or kangaroo Valley but there's an average of 20mins in time, the valley is longer. I believe it would be quicker to go Picton rd & than down the coast to
Narooma, I drive down to
Narooma to service several Gov depts crafts regularly & it is getting better every day & is an easy tow (often tow 8.5mtr craft at 3.5ton)
I believe you will loose a lot of time between
Goulburn &
Batemans bay & a lot more hills & few overtaking sections before the Clyde (& it's a lot longer in time if you go
Braidwood to Moruya)
good luck

Thnks Vince
The Boss is not keen on heights so I had better take her via the picton rd and coast instead of the Clyde.
Thanks everyone for you thoughts its been appreciated.
