With an interstate move my 4 by 6 trailer rego lapsed and the renewal would have been sent to my old address. I only use the trailer about once a year so its not high on the list of priorities.
I was towing it the other day and got pinged by a Highway Patrol for unregistered trailer. How much do you reckon the fine was? Don't cheat by looking it up. Just tell us where you reckon the fine for this heinous crime fits into the scheme of things.

Bob,
I hope this isn’t another bleat about everyone (read the wallopers there) doing the wrong thing by you because you broke the law. Knowing your trailer was unregistered, you made a conscious decision to roll the dice and lost. Why blame everyone else for your stupidity.
I don’t think this
forum is the place for you to bleat about the injustice of you getting caught for doing the wrong thing.
$33 for private trailer rego for a 6x4. Cheaper than the $133 fine and a damn site more sensible. Sorry but if you were expecting sympathy, fresh out of it.

Baz,
If you read my question I was asking for guesses as to the quantum of the fine, not for sympathy. But don't let that stop you being so sanctimonious.

Hi Baz,
Bob wasnt whinging mate, just asking the question.
You are right, this isnt the place to bleat about injustices, but its also not the place to fire back into someone in this manner.

Bob,
This is from someone who didn't know his trailer wasn't registered for 4 years. I always thought the missus had looked after it. We had moved and the address hadn't been changed, also I never ever bothered putting a rego sticker on it so that didn't ring a bell either. It was only when we changed address that I found out. Went to change all the vehicle addresses and they said trailer....What trailer.
Biggest worry is if someone runs into it or it runs into someone. That's when you are in deep dung right up to your tennis balls.
My guess would be about $300.
Have a good one,
RA.

The fine in NSW is $530.
Same as driving an unregistered car. Or driving without a license.
You'd need to do more than 30 k over the limit before you got a speeding fine more than that.
Considering that in VIC, where I live now, the trailer doesn't need its own rego I thought it was quite steep, and out of proportion to the severity of the crime.
But I guess when raising revenue is your game, then a sense of proportion is the last thing on your mind.

Don't know about other States, but the Victorian Police are being a bit stupid for pinging SA registered vehicles for not displaying a current registration sticker.
Stickers were abolished in SA as of July 1st and a notice of current registrsation (without other personal details) is issued for drivers to show interstate poilice proof that the vehicle is registered.
One particular Cop
Shop in
Ballarat is making it difficult for SA drivers at present, issuing on
the spot fines.
Some people are just bleepholes.
PS. My rego is due next month and I will also no longer have a rego sticker to display.
If caught in Mexico, I would refuse the fine and state I'm taking the matter to court.
We are issued with a proof of registration to show to Mr Plod, but this is obviously not good enough for at least one neighbouring State.

As I have stated before to you Bill. You cannot display something you don't have. I would suggest that the nice Police person is not aware of the non issue of Labels in Sth Aussie. Object to the Notice...probably on the back Bill...send off letter with the Notice to Civic Compliance...the address is on the notice Bill & explain the situation. If this fails, elect to have the matter determined by a court. The ticket wouldn't have been issued as a result of attitude would it?

NTVRX, attitude has nothing to do with the matter of your vehicle being registered or not. Registered with proof at hand, leave me alone, Unregistered.....................throw the book at me. Nothing to do with attitude.

Hey Bill, trust things are good over your way. The topic about the rego stickers came up a few weeks back and I think your info is a bit out of date or anecdotal. There's no offence in Victoria to fail to display a rego sticker from a state that doesn't have one.
There is an offence in Victoria for failing to displaying a valid rego sticker for Victorian vehicles. There was a write up over it in one of the papers as
well. bleep that reminds me, I'd better put
mine on both the vehicle and the trailer lol.
Cheers mate,
Mick

You'd think the Victorian Police would be used to the concept, seeing how WA vehicles have not had rego stickers for a good 12-18 months before SA smartened up too in July this year.

D.

Dion,
I thought that decision was made in WA because no one paid their rego anyway ha ha ha. ;-)
Don't worry, I won't give up my day job.
Actually I think it's because there are significantly more vehicles in the east coast states. Makes it a lot easier to identify unregistered and this appears to have been a major government push because of third party insurance issues and the costs associated with the TAC (who are a bunch of pricks and make several hundred million profit each year anyway so go figure!). Will probably go along the way of WA and SA once automated number plate recognition becomes more prevalent.
Cheers Mick

mick there may be more than a bit of truth in that
they confiscate vehicles that are unregistered or the driver is unlicensed
and it was revealed it is costing the WA GVT a motza in impoundment fees due to the massive number of vehicles they impound. most arnt collected and get auctioned off to partly off set costs
as an aside
if your ever involved in an accident the first thing you need to do quickly is get a rego number and maybe a mobile phone
pic of driver and number plate.
there is an excellent chance they dont have a license and will either give false details or do a runner.
A classic example of this was a girl i knew had a 4 car end to ender with her at the front stopped and others piling up behind.
2 of the cars fevourishly unbent panels to clear wheels and took off

Thanks Bob,
Its a good reminder to
check the trailer regos......I wouldnt have expected it to be as serious as the fine seems to reflect as long as the vehicle towing it was registered and the driver licenced. Hate to open a can of worms ,but under the circumstances, I would have thought any decent coppers would have issued a warning???
You'll probably find that stats show most trailer infringments are paid and easily processed compared to other offences....hence the amount.
Nothing to do with revenue, hey?
Cheers
