Gday,
Was planning on
camping over xmas & new-year near
Mildura. Has anyone got any reports on the local conditions. I heard over the weekend they had flooding around. Was planning on
camping out near Merbin { 10-15km's west of
Mildura}. Any info on this area would be great.
Cheers.

Just back from down there and stayed at the Buronga Van
Park on NSW side. Riverside sites and great sunsets, Plenty to see around the area. Drove out to
Wentworth about 25kms. Rugged Leather Works - don't miss this place. Some of the most beautiful leather products I've ever seen anywhere in the world.
This is where the three rivers meet.
The whole area will be busy over Xmas.

There is a
rest area at the Bunnerungee Bridge, 70 km north of
Wentworth on the Silver City Highway.
This
rest area is close to the road, but there's not that much traffic, and there is a
toilet.
The advantage is that the Anna Branch will be running, and the
rest area is next to the
water. You should get some yabbies if you take opera house type traps, and you are far enough away from civilisation not to have to worry about the problem people.
Anything else you will have to pay. If that doesn't worry you, there's Fort Courage, west of
Wentworth on the
Renmark Rd, the caravan
park at
Wentworth, which is really good, but book immediately, and the one at Buronga.
There's also
Pooncarie, which has a small caravan
park on the river, but I think it's
bush camping.
There's also a couple in Mexico on the Murray.

we just left
free camp on the murray ..7k,s back from
wentworth..opposite side of the river..near the bridge..north of yelta..local knowledge of the area is bad i know
any how we were there when the storm hit..75 mils in a couple of hours..happy to say excess
water drained off very quickly...access to and from
campsite was fun for a day or two..but no problems for landcruiser...wife complained about the number of ants before and after the rain, other than that a beautiful quiet spot.
