Hi Bomber - the Shire of Gingin are one of a group of coastal Shires who do not allow camping outside of authorised areas - so i don't like your chances.

Thanks Motherhen, what are the other Shires in that group you mentioned?

Carnamah, Coorow and Dandaragan. I think that about covers the coastline between
Perth and
Dongara. There are no official Main Roads 24 hour rest areas in the strip, few
camp grounds (eg
Sandy Cape near
Jurien Bay and
Lake Indoon near
Eneabba) or Parks campgrounds. Gone are the days of squatters
shacks along
the beach. It took a long time to clean up the coastline so suspect that has caused them to go overboard so as not to get into that situation again. Some Shires will turn a blind eye to an occasional camper doing the right thing - but these ones have hostile advertising threatening fines.
Further north
Exmouth has similar policies, and Roebourne Shire (
Karratha) is pretty harsh due to problems with squatters caused by pressure on accommodation in the mining industry, so have very few designated campgrounds.
