The Barrier Highway is closed at Cockburn due to damage at the bridge over Pine Creek.
Travel between Broken Hill and SA is via Wentworth for at least 24 hours by the sound of it. Maybe longer.

cheers

Thanks Dave. Looks like you'll all need your floaties on up there. Stay safe.

Cheers Mick

Looks like the Barrier Highway will be closed for maybe a week, they are not sure how to fix the bridge going by the TV News tonight.

Looks like the Sturt Highway will be busy.

cheers

I'm due to stay in Cockburn on April 2nd (booked into the hotel heading south and west). Let's hope it's fixed by then. I've booked myself in all the way to Perth and don't really want any major detours but let's see what happens.

I'm hoping you're right Dave. I don't want to detour via Wentworth and am prepared to go off road to circumvent that (if possible). It is a major highway so I imagine the SA Roads people will be working hard (as I write) to reopen it.

According to reports on local radio, they are looking at maybe laying a temporary roadway across the structure already there.
The way I envisage is similar to Bailey Bridge.
They have to work out various problems considering there are roadtrains and B-Doubles up and down the road all the time as well as the normal cars, vans, trucks etc.
Will probably hear something more towards the end of the week.

according to an ABC report on 9 March the road should be open now
http://www.abc.net.au/local/stories/2012/03/09/3449609.htm
can anyone confirm that
we are leaving from Sydney on 19 March to head to Perth and would prefer to go through Broken Hill than through all the water down the Riverina way
