We are towing an 18ft 6' caravan with a Challenger and usually take the route from Coffs via
Bellingen and Dorigo which is maneageable. We are considering using the Oxley from port Macquarie to
bendemeer this year and would appreciate any advice on its suitability.

Trucks with 40ft trailers use that road so should be ok for you.
Cheers Dave.

Semi Trailers regularly use it, just 40-50km of windy roads, with some corners down to 35kh/hr. I don't think it is an accredited B double route though.
There are NO narrow sections, the
Dorrigo hill is much narrower and steeper by comparison.
Biggest
hazard especially on weekends are motor bikes who think they are at Phillip Island. Enjor the break at Gingers Ck roadhouse.

It is a less incline but longer road. It is the one that I prefer to the Coffs Rd.
Make a stop at Aspley Falls overnight if you can. One of the best campsites in Australia. Make sure you pay as the
ranger comes around on dusk. Lots of fire wood provided and a tiled floor in the bush
toilet. Take Mosi spray and your own loo paper. ( you will have it in the van anyway).

Hi Belfast Girl,
I agree with the others as I use the Oxley Highway regularly.
The Oxley is the pick of the roads and I have recently towed our 23 footer Jayco up the Oxley Highway and back down the Oxley Highway (months holiday ended last weekend) and I never hesitate to recommend that road.
Along the way west of
Wauchope you have Ellenborough free
camp ground if you want to stop overnight before climbing up the range or you can stop in the
rest area, as I always do, just before Gingers at Stockyard Creek, and an overnight stay at
Apsley Falls is a must. Great
campground with nice clean flushing loos and firewood supplied all for a small fee placed in the honesty box.
Just put the vehicle in 3rd gear if an automatic and let it do its thing till you get to the top. Take your time and enjoy the run and pull over when you can, as often as you can, to let the vehicles behind you pass and you will be under no pressure.
Have a nice trip and hope you enjoy yourselves. I know I always do on that run.
Cheers, Bruce.
