Got a problem so figured I'd enlist the help of more brains....
David and I are trying to come up with a change of tagline for ExplorOz. ie. where at the top of the site on the
Home Page (and how search engines indexed us), we say ExplorOz - a guide to 4WD Trip Planning.
We want to remove the 4WD emphasis and also the word "guide" is misleading (ie. we're not a tour guide). And its the start of a new year, so looking for something fresh as our tagline.
Some ideas are:
ExplorOz - Gateway to understanding the Australian Touring and Camping
Recreation
ExplorOz - Trip Planning and Vehicle Setup
ExplorOz - Everything you need to know about 4WDs, Caravans & Camping
ExplorOz - The place to go, before you go.
ExplorOz - Australia's Biggest Resource for Planning Trips
ExplorOz - Bringing consumers and industry together
ExplorOz - Travel planning, Advice and Resources
Please enter your suggestsions - needs to be short and catchy and descriptive of what the WHOLE site offers. What a tough call I know but can you try please?ExplorOz

G'day Michelle,
Why would you want to remove the 4WD emphasis ???
No offence intended here, but I do hope that this is not the result of a (real or perceived) need to be seen as "Politically Correct".. Or any kind of a
cave-in to the "Anti-4WD" brigade !!!
It seems to me that if one really wants to "Exploroz" (in the true sense), whether caravanning, or camping with or without a campertrailer (or whatever), a medium-to-heavy 4WD is by far the best choice of vehicle...
As usual, JMO !!
Of the choices you list, I'd go with #3..

Ed. C. much of what is on the site is relevant to people who travel australia in a motorhome, a campervan etc. And the 4WD word is limiting if used in the tagline - the very first thing that is promoted across the internet, in all search engines, in all marketing etc. and sets up a precident that doesn't exist. However, as we all know, in reality a 4WD is the prefered option for getting the most out of Exploring Oz and hopefully the information on this site will clarify that to people that come to it, without the notion that they might need one, but then realise by the articles and information on the site that they should. We have always had a readership that included people in the very early trip planning stages who haven't selected THE vehicle so we don't want to
pigeon hole ourselves in our tagline, as not everyone identifies themselves as a 4WDriver - eg. people sometimes view themselves as a caranner, but pull it behind a 4WD, but don't call themselves a 4WDriver. There is stacks of relevant information on the site for them, and they have a place here. That's all!ExplorOz

ExplorOz - a site to help you prepare, travel and enjoy.
ExplorOz - the right way
ExplorOz - an online mine of information for travel planning and preparation.
ExplorOz - the ultimate guide for travel planning and information exchange.
ExplorOz - travel planning at your fingertips.
ExplorOz - you CAN get there from here
Hope it helps.
Any prizes? :)

Hi all,
How about:
ExplorOz - Australian Touring from Coast to Outback
I also agree with the over emphasis on 4WD's.
Many treks you have on your site are easily done in a 2WD vehicle (YES they are).
Some could also be done with a bicycle, on foot, motorbike and even perhaps a camel to name the first few that came to mind.
I also would say that you have 4WD's mentioned so often on the site that the major internet
search engines would pick the site up anyway.
4WD's would be the preferred option to most I guess, but is by no means the only available option.
At the end of the day, each to his/her own. This is my personal opinion only.
Cheers to all
Equinox

Huge response everyone thanks very much for the input so far.
For an illustration of the change we want to make, go to Google and set your
search options for pages in
Australia and then enter the keywords of say,
4wd travel
the results lists shows us in No. 1 postion, however the tagline says
"A Highly Detailed Guide to 4WD
Trip Planning Australia Wide".
This is actually the tag line that I need to change, I led you a bit astray when I shortened it to what is shown onthe home page (ie. guide to 4WD
trip planning). So I need to change the whole thing and would prefer it to be shorter, catchier yet descriptive of what we offer.
Most suggestions here are getting extremely close, but I haven't quite got it spot on... what about ExplorOz -
Australia's Ultimate WebGuide to Travel &
Camping? David hates the words Gateway, Portal, WebGuide etc but I think that's the problem I need ONE descriptive word that says you can get to everything here. Now surely someone out there is a English Literature professor with a flair for marketing??
If you're all bored by now I understand ... but for those that haven't had a crack at it, thought I'd steer you along some more... while I write a newsletter going out today!!!ExplorOz

How about encompassing "travel & camping" with "adventure", or even "the outback".
Then you could use something like;
ExplorOz - The ultimate guide to Australian adventure,
or
ExplorOz - The ultimate guide to
Australia's outback,
or
ExplorOz - The ultimate guide to the Australian outback."Live today as if there may be no tomorrow"

Michelle,
I like this one also the term "Webguide" which is a good accurate description of what ExplorOz is. Surely if you get Leigh to vote you gals can outvote David on this one LOL!

Michelle, don't use "travel". Half the people that visit will be looking for hotel listings and "things to see on the Gold Coast" type of entries.Smile, you're on ExplorOz

I do like WebGuide... but Wombat's
Ultimate Guide to the
Australia Outback is cool too...

Michelle,
Just a thought.... but if you're happy enough with the existing tag line except you want to broaden it... then why not simply make it;
"A Highly Detailed Guide to
Trip Planning Australia Wide"
Other than that, the other's that everyone else have voted for are catchy enough as well!!!
Just my opinion
Cheers

Thanks Brian,
Yes, that is the obvious easy change but I never really like it much in the first place. It might end up that way. It was actually given to us as a suggested tagline from a
search engine submission service and since we used it, it certainly worked very well, but its a bit dry for my liking...

Apologies Michelle...I did indeed mean Leah. My brain (and memory) has turned to mush lately which my sister-in-law tells me is a "pregnancy thing" so I'll blame that, LOL.

OK then, I think I'm getting close now. I going to try...
"Find out more about 4WDing,
camping & caravanning"
It's very similar to the graphics on our vehicle, and in fact its probably better.
I'm also getting a massive sticker made (on request from tour operators and other business/advertisers who want one on their cars) to say the same - set to the left besides the logo. Sound alright to you??Regards Michelle,

Hi Michelle
Try for the real short title but I think more importantly you should add in a description that appears below the title in a
search result. For example:
EPLOREOZ - The place to go before you go!
Exploreoz is your complete resource for 4wd,
camping, planning trips, advice and industry links in
Australia.
This description is picked up and displayed by most
search engines and allows for a longer explanation (not too long though). The code looks like this and is just beneath the code for your title on the home page:
If you have no description code it will display the first string of text.
Good Luck :)

Pradoman, thanks for the text idea, however we already have the description code worked out to pick up the page text which is perfect and just want I want already. The
search engine performance we have is sensational thanks to David's expert knowledge and continual tweaking over time. It's just a marketing point of view that I want to change the text that shows in the browser window header and also the larger first line heading shown in the
search engine results.
I like you, prefer a short title, but in fact better performance is found if that title uses important keywords, hence I have settled on my latest version using the 4WD,
camping and
caravanning words.
Anyway, its no big deal for now. I'm going to get David to make the change and we'll wait and see.
BTW - overnight, we made a change to page titles for the
Trader and
Shop and jumped to the top rank in
search results for 4WDs for sale,
GPS for sale etc etc. This system of change indexes immediately, and does not take mths to be identified by the
search engine metacrawlers as it uses a different method and gives the most important result to us.Regards Michelle,
