I wasn't on it this year, but did come down it, in a Holden ute, about 40 years ago. It was good then, like 60mph all way from Top springs to Dunmarra, but the Jasper Gorge section was more stony, and slower going. And good scenery as well.

The way the NT's roads are, I couldn't see it becoming worse.

lived up near Top Springs for a bit, roads in and around the gorges and rivers can change a LOT over a few weeks, i have seen a perfect road completely washed away and not passable at all, even the grader AND loader got bogged, grader was stuck for a week or more ..........
Keep tabs on the top end wet seasn and ring a few weeks before and then just befor you are about to travel ...

Buntine a few time in the early 80's and honestly if I could remember most of these roads would not be any different. But I am 30 years old and not as crazy hahahahaha.

Hi suzumu : we did it June this year good driver & road was fine , camped at top springs over night but not necessary .Was a little stony & rough timber creek end .
I think its a good short cut .
