Hi All, can anyone give details of camping experiences at caravan/tourist parks in
Canberra. We have a camper trailer but thought this time we would be 'city slickers' and stay on the 'tarmac' and visit our nations capital. Crikey, we're even going to use powered sites!! With what i've heard so far from word and mouth none of them stand out from the crowd.
Many Thanx

true none of them are worth a mention... the only one that I have heard is any good is at Eaglehawk... about 10km north on the federal Highway. Queanbeyan has a nice little park on the river may be worth a try. The Cotter has a reasonable camping ground... not sure though if it is open after the bushfires...

Yes the Cotter is still open, There's showers,
toilets, firewood etc.
There is also a park "Motor village motel & Caravan park" in O'Connor.
Where are you coming from??? Do you have an area of
Canberra in mind???All my friends have Nissans

thanx puddle duck, didn't think i'd have to take my
snorkel and flippers to
camp!!! Sounds like the poor buugers at
Tamworth on Saturday....
Hi Steve, will be coming from the
Gold Coast via Dubbo. My 'Outlaws' have stayed at the o'connor site, but this was many years ago. They also mentioned the park at Symonston. Is this one any good?
What other info can you provide on The Cotter, ie. distance from
Canberra etc.........
Thanx to you both......tspoon

Haven't been to the one in Symonston, so not sure about that one!
The Cotter is a little burnt out in areas but the
camping area is fine, we went past there a few weeks ago and there we quite a few campers there, it is a little out of the way, No shops etc, just basic facilities. Roughly half an hour out of the city, all depends on what you want to see.
O'Connor is in a good spot to get to most things, 5 mins and you're in the city.

Tspoon,
There is a lovely big area in front of Old
Parliament House that has been long established as a popular
campsite. You would be very welcome there. The price is right too.Bob

The Carotel is probably the best of those. Some friends stayed there quite recently.
The other would be the Queanbeyan one. Wouldn't bother with the Symondston one , its mostly permenant residents.
