Today we headed off to the Bardedjilidji Track only to find it was closed due to the high water levels. We then tried to go to the Manngarre Rainforest Walk and yes this was closed also. We made our way to the famous Cahill Crossing on East Alligator River at a lowish tide.

As we had failed to see the other sites we thought that we would not wait until sunet to see Ubirr. Some of Kakadu’s most important ancestral figures are depicted in the rock art at Ubirr. Most of the xray paintings in the gallery are from the freshwater period, within the past 1,500 years, they show the abundant food available in the area surrounding Ubirr including fish, waterfowl, mussels, wallabies, goannas, echnidnas and yams. The climb to Nadab lookout is a steep 250 m climb with 360-degree views of Arnhem Land and the Nadab floodplain. It was a strenuous walk in 35 degree heat.

After our walk at Ubirr we thought we would return to Cahill Crossing to see it at a higher tide and see if there were any crocodiles there to feed on the fish.
