This morning we set the alarm and woke at 5am so we could get to the Yellow Water Cruise for sunrise. A very relaxing and restful cruise cruising along the river as the day commenced.

After the cruise we headed to Gunlom Falls which has one of the most spectacular and unique infinity pools at the summit, famously featured in Crocodile Dundee, where stunning panoramic views of the park unfold. A short but very steep 500m walk takes you up to a series a falls, each with a picture perfect swimming hole.

The base plunge pool surrounded by a pristine sandy beach and crystal-clear waters was closed due to the biggest wet the NT has had in 20 years. The emerald-green billabong fed by the 85-metre cascade fringed by pandanus and paperbarks is just picture perfect.

At the top a series of clear, terraced “infinity” pools spill gently over smooth sandstone, this is where we had our cooling off swim. Yes we did swim in the spot where Paul & Linda were famously filmed. Soaking in waist-deep water while gazing across Kakadu’s vast stone country, woodlands, and winding waterways.

The final 40km of gravel road to get there was a great 4WD experience passing through escarpments, woodlands, and classic Top End scenery.
