I am looking for a 4x4 ONLY campsite on the South Coast NSW or North Coast of Victoria. The camp site must be free and on or next to the beach.

I don't mind being completely self sufficient.

Thanks for your help!

I am too so very interested in the replies. The north coast of Victoria will be tough though... :-)

Hi Peter

This park is worth a look if you haven't checked it out already.

Plenty of campsites and areas to choose from, although not free given it is a National Park, but fees look to be fairly nominal...

Apart from the 4x4 only bit, when you find a FREE camp site on or next to a beach on the east coast of Australia, post it up cause me and a lot of others would love to know !!

Can't fit the beach part, how about a river?

Bendethera in the Deua National Park.

Definitely 4wd only.

Closest town is Moruya.

Good choice, it's free too. You can do a day trip to the beach...probably about an hour each way?

Belowra used to be good but not sure if it still operates since the passing of its owner Fergus Thompson. It's on the upper Tuross river inland from Bodalla, suggest you try Googling it as the only email I have is for the late owner, I understand the property remains in family hands?

Cape Conran about 30 minutes out of Orbost has great bush camping right above as good a surf beach as you'll find anywhere.
Cheers, Gary M.
