Hi all, has anyone driven this road recently? I see on some earlier posts it was considered pretty rough but we were hoping to tow our Mountain Trail Camper through there in early July.
Any updates most welcome.
Cheers, Gary M.

Time of last grading + amount of traffic through = roughness quotient.

Ask in the days before you go.

. . . or just go and adapt driving to conditions, along with tyre pressures . . . from the looks of your avatar, you've done that before.
Enjoy the trip, we are into the NT Simpson from June 1st to 12th or so, looking forward to some warmer days !! :)

Hi Gary
Did the Marine loop last year in late June.
The road is a well formed gravel road and should not be an issue if driving to conditions. We did it in a 200 series with Kimberley Kamper.
Had the tyres down at 28psi on the car and 25psi on the camper.
Just check on recent rainfall.
Cheers Craig

Hi Gary,
Can't comment on current conditions but our biggest problem in 2006 was hire 4wd campers whose drivers apparently could not find the brake pedal when they approached oncoming traffic and or did not feel a need to not hog the middle of the road. Regardless of how carefully you drive to the conditions you cannot control these novices.
Enjoy Kings Canyon.

The 60 km west of H'burg was a rough as back in Sept 2015. There was talk of tarring it but who knows. Lower those pressures and suck it up. Or why not go down through to Boggy Hole and then hit Ernest giles Rd then left - west to Kings...... W

Can do Palm Valley then, but some of the Boggy Hole is indeed a little rougher on the tracks than the corros on Mereenie run.
Oh, and better turn right down the bottom if heading to Kings :D
West is right (as well as correct) though :D :)

Yeah. Boggy Hole/Finke Gorge NP needs reasonable clearance.

Gary. Agree with Sigmund and Craig.

For what it's worth we did it in June last year with Prado towing a Kimberley Karavan(2.2t) and there had been about 40mm of rain in the previous week.

Road was good in places and rough in others with some deep wash out gullies and wheel size pot holes along with plenty of corrugations. Just took it easy with lower tyre pressures and no problems what so ever. The road is generally well formed and wide so there is room to navigate through most of the rough sections.

It's quite a scenic drive. Trust you will meet with good road conditions but if not then drive more slowly and you should be fine.

Cheers John

Why do people reply with old information?.It is basically irrelevant.I travelled Glen Helen to Kings Canyon on May 25th 2017,with a colorado and single axle manta ray.Dropped tyres to 35.Shredded 1 tyre & averaged approx 70kph.It is not particularly scenic, but an easy drive, some corrugations(passed a motor cyclist!).Take care on the dips.Caravan park at KC is pretty good, even considering the price. The walk is ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC.
Check road conditions at the alice TI before u go-enjoy

Even info that is 3 days old is irrelevant if the weather changes. People's comments on the road under historical conditions can be useful if you find yourself on that road under those conditions. Besides, we shouldn't be discouraging posts...there'll be nothing to read. :-)

An AMAZING FEAT to seal the road to KC in a week. The road has just been sealed from Hermansburg to the turn off to Glen Helen.BUT,I will stand corrected.

Road has been sealed from Hermansberg to the glen Helen turn off, road from there on is standard NT dirt road with some good bits some bad, lovely corrogations until the tar again about 30 odd k from kings canyon resort.

As others have said reduce air pressures and speed and enjoy the view, easy drive.
