A great weekend had by all, after meeting Fatz at Sth Hurstville we drove to Moruya meeting Penguin to go into the valley, as we were setting up the others arrived Tony aka Well55, member Howard and his son Paul, Paul J (ACT) and his nephew Damir, and Angelo there were no probs had by anyone going in. After everyone had setup Tony took us for a tour of the valley, to the old homestead and the the place where there used to be a racecourse next to the homestead the bakery which is what was left of the homestead, the site where the young boy was left after he broke his leg so bad that he could not be moved for 2 weeks, the water hole for swimming bit cool for a dip we thought, such a beautiful place thank you Tony it was brilliant learning the history as the valley, back at the campsite we settled in for a great night of talking and tasting a few ale's then going to bed, what a great day and when we awoke in the morning had beakie, we had another look at the valley and a couple of more river crossing's, as we found out Angelo loves river crossings after getting back we all packed up and headed home, on the way out there was a slight hicup, on the last uphill after negociating the steepest of the hills i think i became a bit cockie and did not have enough momentum and to make up for it tried to excellerate out of trouble, basicly i stuffed up nothing to bad a big thanks to the guys and girls for helping me out after this we were off again and heading home. Kerry and I had a great time and we loved meeting everyone and hope to meet again as well as other's when we have our next get-together, mate i can't wait.

The gang that turned up were Well55 Tony, member Howard and his son, Angelo aka Cokeaddict, Paul J (ACT) and his nephew, Mike and Ruth aka Penguin Mick and Ilene and ME and Kerry.

Hi John
I think your refering to the rock pool we were checking out below us.
Tony (our Guide and new friend) took us there and we were amazed at it. Would be a great place to swim in when summer hits.
There were some fantastic places all around us.
Also a great place to sneak away and hide with what should be a wife if you get my drift, while the kids are walking around the camp site.

I will be back for sure. Now I know you can get a trailer in, I will be taking mine next timeload the bike up and enjoy it even more.

John it's 320Ks south of Sydney just off the Princes Hwy 3 1/2hrs to Moruya then 1h 15min to the valley floor. Would be about 6hrs from smellbourne, good spot for a "combined gathering" or maybe somewhere near the border on the Murrey !!!! (worth a thought.)

Not a bad idea Baz, you have just started the ball rolling, Tom Groggin, or Bendethra.

But you will need to bring a bigger keg.

Hi Tony,
how you doing ?
Just wanted to tell you that today i checked out my shower unit again to see if i could find the cause as to why i dont get hot shower water.

Well I found the problem alright, the unit was dead. So I rang twine up in Prospect in sydney and drove up there to see if their product would fit using the glind bracket i had...it did, went home installed it and set the shower up.
Ran the car at 1200 rpm for 10 minutes,
then switched on the pump.
lifted the rear of the car to bleed out all air for 2 minutes
put car back down on floor.
turned heater tap to max hot setting.
The water comming out of the shower head was increadably HOT !
dropped the rpm back down to idle and water was still staying at that tepm.
I had full temp control using the temp slide on dash. I have never expierenced anything soooo good in a long time.....well except Bendethera.

Just wanted to share the news witchya !

Did I detect a NPWS badge on one of those jackets? That's cheating : )
Looks like a great trip - terrific photos. Look forward to getting there myself once the temp gets a few degrees above freezing. Anything less than 30 degrees is cold for me.
Best wishes
Jack

Hi pmacks

I had no problems with the pop top. It has an underslung axle and an articulated hitch and follows the Cruiser very well. I wouldn't have even thought of doing the trip without the hitch. Ask cokeaddict, he was following me out on Sunday.

There was a slippery uphill climb which claimed Baz (very minorly) and had me a bit worried but after letting the tyres down to 20 we got up in low/low without any slippage at all.

Hi penguin,
thanks for that we have a goldstream off road camper and have been thinking about this trip for a while, we have read in the past that a trailer would not make it and others have said it would so it was pleasing to see the photo of your jayco in there so now we will have to go and see for ouselves.
thanks pmacks

Hello there,
YEs i can confirm (to my total amazement) that you can get one in and back out.
I have to say my original post was to find out if i could geta 7x4 box trailer in carrying a bike on it. Here I am totally amazed when i get to the camp site there are Mike & Ruth setting up athe caravan.

I sat behind Mike on the way out and i was very impressed. No doubt at all in my mind now that you will get it in...as long as its being towed by a cruiser or a patrol. After Baz's little happening I kept looking back at the caravan and thinking to myself.....this hill will take hours to get that caravan up. But Mike drove it exactly how it was supposed to be driven and made it up no problem at all.

So just when you think you know what your car can and cant do, you come across someone who will prove you wrong as the cruiser did. I take my hat off to you guys. Still very impressed.

YOU were impressed!! I was the one that was s**tting myself after watching you go up the hill without a trailer. I really thought that first gear would spin the wheels too much but not so. Maybe the extra weight gave me a bit more grip. It was a similar situation with Mick (fatz) towing Baz's trailer up the hill - he didn't seem to slip either. Mind you I think he has M/T's on.

Did I read that right.

"It was a similar situation with Mick (fatz) towing Baz's trailer up the hill"

What happened to the Exploder that it could not tow it's own camper up the hill ?
Did it need a cruiser to do the job ?

Yes John, that's right! Mick hitched Baz's trailer on because the Exploder was getting wheelspin. Having said that, if Baz had lowered his tyre pressures a bit more and picked a drier line he probably would have made it.

You always need a Cruiser to do the job if you need it done right the first time. ;-)

yeah, had M/T's on, but it was'nt that bad. think Baz had an over specked trailer on an underspecked Car!!!!! When I had the trailer hooked up i was going to keep going and see how long it would take him to find me!! i'd have been happy with the swap.

Looks like a great trip.

I was considering a last minute dash down myself but unfortunately , I was sick . . . maybe next time.

Did all the trailers come in via Moruya ?

Thats the long way around for us (Canberra). I've only been in once , and came via Dampier Trig. Other then the very last steep decent , and hairpin turn , I cant think of any other obstacle , that would stop you towing a decent offroad CT in that way . . . . any opinions.

I have been told CT's via Arulen and Merricumbene FT would be a no no ?

Flappan, I reckon you would need to unhitch to get around the hairpin via Dampier Trig, maybe another vehicle to back up into the end of the turn to pull the trailer back so you could complete the turn.

You can do it in one go on the way up.

Via Merricumbene woud be a bit of a struggle, not worth the hassel.

All trailers came in via Moruya not all that much further to drive around through Arulen.

Flappan,
after exiting via Merricumbene, 80 series and hilux, on Sunday morning I would suggest no hope of getting a CT into Bendethra from Araluen end and little chance of getting one out going going north. There were lots of cut off trees( read F250 toll gates ie 2 inches wider than a landcruiser.) and even detours which would be awkward with a trailer and some of the hills were steep and loose and long. Makes the first pull up the hill from the Valley camping ground look easy.Took 2hr 45min for 45 km on a trouble free run.
regards
howard
