Brissie to Alice via Port Augusta - now that's a rather long detour isn't it?

Brisbane to Longreach
Winton to Boulia
Boulia to Alice
Note, Plenty is closed at the moment
That's the quick way. It's a LOT of driving but I've done it by myself twice.
Much better to stop before Longreach.
Maybe stop at Winton
Spend a night on the Plenty
Alternative is via 3 Ways , takes about an extra day but tar all the way.
Fuel is more expensive at 3 ways than at Tennent Creek from memory.
There's a lot to see and do in Alice.
You could be flat out in that timeframe :))

If you want tar, go 3 Ways.
If you want to see the country , go via the Plenty. ..if its open. Don't go the Plenty if there's a lot of rain about.
If you go 3 ways there's a bit of roadwork to watch out for between the Isa and Cammonweal. Also watch for BIG trucks going into the Isa.

Lux, I went to Birdsville on the way, Miles ist night,2nd night Quilpi, arrived b/ville next day. Stayed 2 nights,[at Ruths c/p] . Good road to Boulia[5 hrs.] carried on to Tobermorey station, stayed the night[ex] from there to the bituman 8 & half hrs.good rd. although the stretch from Jervois to the bit. was ROUGH...It could be better or worse now , that was 2 mths ago.
Thats 6 days to get to Alice,& the same home, leaves 2 days in Alice, even skipping the 2 days at B/ville thats only 4 days in Alice,NOT enough.[its 4hrs to uluru] you need to overnight there. Another night in Palm valley ,ex campsites. You,ve still got theMcdonnell range & Kings canyon to see, & HEAPS of stuff in day trips
It is a really great place to visit , so I guess you get there as quic as you can, & see what you can get done, hope this helps , have a good trip... Phil.

If you only have 2 weeks, I doubt thats anywhere near enough.

I reckon you need at least a week in or around Alice Springs and that only leaves 1 week to get there and back.

Whilst that is achievable regardless of which way you go, it just doesnt seem long enough to me as all you will be doing is driving and there wont be enough time to see the sights along the way.

Been to Alice a couple of times from south side of Brisy.

Not sure if you are travelling with children, and if you have 2 drivers.

If I was planning a quick 2 week trip for my wife and I.
Day 1 - Augathella (700k) or Tambo or Barcaldine (1000k), depending on what time we got away.
day 2 - try and make Boulia, depends if stop in Longreach for the hall of fame etc.
day 3 - overnight at the plenty river, sorry, if plenty closed - add an extra day for the 3 ways via Mt Isa. Just don't turn left at Winton. Mt Isa cheapest fuel you will see until you get back to Brisy.
day 4- into Alice around early afternoon.
day 5 - around Alice, restock
day 6 - western McDonnells - camp one night at a western gorge.
only have time for about 60 mins at 3 or 4 gorges/sites.
day 7 - palm valley
day 8 - see palm valley, or might have to miss.
day 9 - kings canyon - don't have time , go to Uluru
day 10 - Uluru
day 11 - back to Tennant Ck
day 12 - Mt Isa
day 13 Longreach
day 14 home

Just not really feasible except for a quick look around Alice and maybe Uluru, or one other major site :-)
Could be feasible if you can do more Ks per day going and coming.
We usually do 6000 to 7000k and take 3 weeks. 4 weeks is better and do 8000k.
