We're planning on travelling from
Tibooburra to
Birdsville via
Warri Gate into
Innamincka & then via
Cordillo Downs Rd to
Birdsville. Can anyone provide any
feedback on the road condition, in general, & suitability for towing an off-road camper trailer - not travellling until July.
Thanks all.....

Take it easy and you'll be fine (assuming the weather is fine too).
Cordillo Downs road can be rough, and have the odd washout if it hasn't been graded for a while.

You wont have any problems with that trip. The northern end of the Cordello Downs road is a bit rocky & the soiuthern end has some sand but nothing to worry about. Can do the trip from
Innamincka to
Birdsville in one day but more enjoyment in taking 2 & looking at the country.

Just an alternative you may like to consider.
Most "locals" travelling between
Innamincka and
Birdsville go via
Walkers Crossing track.
Same deal as
Cordillo Downs road, usually OK but if rain has occurred, they may be impassable.
The
Walkers Crossing track is shorter and you would have no problem in getting to
Birdsville (or vica versa) in under a day, even towing the Camper.
Transport SA Gov is a good site for up-to-date road conditions.

I second the Walker Crossing track - did it last July as part of a one day stretch from Boudourie to Innaminka via
Birdsville. Can't recall much gibber; mostly firm sand and great scenery. Lots of water could be a problem - you have to cross the Cooper (it was bone dry when we did it). We were towing a
Tambo CT behind a petrol Jackaroo. A great trip. Enjoy. Rob.

Macloud,
I travelled through their a few years ago towing a jayco out back camper.
I didn't particular like the
Cordillo Downs part of it though.
The Giba
rock I thought was bad. It is like driving on razor blades.
I had ruined my Tyre and rim.
I had even damaged my PVC pipe pole storage in the front of the camper.
Enjoyed camping at the river near the
ruins though, apparently has lots of yabbies.
I would think about doing it again. If you choose to go that way go extremely slow.
After looking at the videos of the trip that we had done the rocks that flick up on this road seem to be by far the worst. Was not driving to fast neither, never the less I would go slower again if was to re attempt it.

Did the trip 18 months ago towing an off-road camper trailer. The posts above have it correct. Very stony through the
cordillo downs. Make sure you cover the back windscreen of your wagon or vehicle with a protective shield ie; perspex or even cardboard and hundred mile an hour tape. Don't rely of the trailers stone deflector as it dosn't deflect them all!
