Davoe,
You are joking of course?
What almost buggered the whole concept up is when the powers that be allowed the twin egg beater Sierras to compete.
Wth their power to weight ratio, they were unbeatable at the time, but boy they kind of lacked that certain sound.
Then commonsense prevailed and the series was changed to the Holden/Ford V8 concept we have today. And you couldn't get a better concept anywhere else in the world of Motor Racing.
Yes, they may not be the fastest group of vehicles that have raced around a race track, but in sheer excitement to watch and in drawing the all important sponsorship dollar, they are absolutely unrivalled anywhere else in motorsport for a "road car" based marque. Even the formula 1 teams stop to watch and listen to the almighty V8 Supercars race around the track.
So, bugger any other turbocharged soapbox from competing with the V8's. It's a uniquely Australian racing concept envied by other countries.
Oh, and by the way, if I'm not mistaken, any new model from either Holden or Ford, must still produce and release a minimum of 300 vehicles to the public, before it is accepted into the sport.
Just one last thing. The sport is "controlled" somewhat to even out the competitiveness of the two brands, otherwise HOLDEN would win everything and FORD would spit the dummy and then there'd be no V8 Supercars:-))
Even though I am pro Holden
camp, (I work there) I can appreciate the Ford vehicles and their drivers all the same.
Competition is good, both on the race track and between the bantering of the two camps' dedicated supporters.
Long live V8 Supercars I say.
