My partner and I are leaving
the Rock prematurely and as such aim to be travelling to
Coober Pedy next Tuesday night (en route back for
Adelaide).
I have looked at some of the accomodation options, but figured we might use our Camper Trailer.
Am after the opinion of others, as for the best place to stop and set up for the night.???
Think there are 3 or 4 Caravan Parks in town..???
Cheers
Shane

I only know of one c/van
park in town and have stayed there o/nite on one occasion. It is up the top of town, close (ish) to the highway and, from memory, it was okay.
There may be others, but I am not aware of any.......
Cheers

Hi Shane
There are a couple of parks in
Coober Pedy. We have also stayed a couple of times in the
Park that Roachie has mentioned, it is the
Stuart Range Caravan Park.
Clean place and you will need about 3x20 cent pieces for a shower.
Cheers
Stephen

Its a big trip. I'd stay undergound at the
Coober Pedy Experience Motel and leave the CT in the car
park - thats what we did.

Have stayed at the
Stuart Range Caravan Park a couple of times and it was fine. The
park in the middle of town seems to be a bit more popular but there are a lot of undesirables that walk past and can make a bit of noise. As stated, you need a few 20c coins for the shower.

Hi
we stayed at the Big 4 Caravan
park -
Oasis Caravan
Park, it was OK, not sure how'd be with a CT, we had a caravan the first time we were there, but last time we were there we stayed in The Underground Motel, parked the trailer in the
carpark - it was brilliant..the motel is high above the town with a great view out to
the Breakaways.

That's the place we stayed.
Drove from
Broken Hill to
Coober Pedy in the day and crashed at the underground.
Friendly people, great view and comfy beds all at a reasonable cost.
It was very welcome at a the end of a big day.

Was in
Coober Pedy a couple of years ago. We stayed with a couple who ran the op-
shop there. A bit rough but a lot cheaper than a c'van
park. The couple will supply power at a nominal cost and
water but there are no showers or
toilet facilities. They do not object to you taking a dog there are the area is fully fenced but I do not know if they are still there as they were considering selling up.

We stayed at the
Stuart Range Caravan Park, just off the highway, only two weeks ago with our camper. Part of the
park provides shade cloth for vans. Very handy when temperatures are hovering around 40 degrees.
The only
park I have stayed at where you have to feed twenty cent pieces into the showers for a three minute soak. I thought it was pretty petty at first, but when I saw the sheer waste of
water by some inconsiderate users at other parks, I changed my mind.

Coober pedy can get very windy.
Camping area at Stuart Range is pretty open - can get blown away and covered in dust.
Oasis in the middle of town is much more sheltered, but not as roomy. I'd prefer
Oasis.

Yes, I have also stayed at both the Start Range and the
Oasis Caravan Parks.
I like the
Oasis for its convenience.
We have driven from
Adelaide to
Coober Pedy (with the Camper Trailer) but stayed in one of the on-site cabins with another couple the first night. (didn't want the hassle of packing up for a earlyish departure the next day.
The
Oasis is centrally located in the main street and resturants, pub, etc. are within easy walking distance.
Haven't noticed any problem from "undesirables".
The
park is secured.

Greendog
Sounds like you've had a bad experience in CP why don't you share it with us? Or have you just heard some bad stories (urban myths???) Personally we've been there a number of times and always enjoyed it. Had a fabulous game of golf there and enjoyed the company of the locals. Have stayed in
Oasis and the one out of town - found both to be adequate. Also stayed underground and enjoyed that.

Thank you to everyone for your replies.
@Greendog - I had thought about alternative stops but reckon
Yulara -
Coober Pedy / Stop overnight /
Coober Pedy -
Port Pirie or Booleroo Centre / stop overnight, would be the best run on the road..
Still not sure, but as I will be securing two swags and and a bike to the top of the Camper Trailer, I am leaning towards maybe not using the C/T and leaving it parked in a
carpark whilst we sleep inside a room / cabin, ready for an early get away the next day.
Cheers
Shane
