Seen a few dingo fences in my time. But now I read that the dingo fence between Qld and SA starts on the Gold Coast.
I didn't know that, I thought maybe Toowoomba or somewhere.
Anyone know exactly where on the Gold Coast it starts ? After 20 years I need to explore my own back yard a bit more !

Thanks for that. I might take a poke around that area again and see if I can find something.

The Dingo Fence commences at Jimbour in the Darling Downs near Dalby and finishes 5320 Km's away on the Great Australian Bight.

Hope this helps,

Geoff.

Geoff, thats what I thought, but the literature says "from the Gold Coast." Now I know there's a vermin proof fence that follows the border and I thought maybe it linked up. But Dalby is a bit north of the border...

I think that the fence beginning around the Woodenbong area is the Rabbit Fence and then it joins up with the Fence at Jimbour and becomes the Wild Dog Fence.pest control fence map

I hope that link works, the first time I've tried to do this...

Vivien, now that I've seen some of the terminology (vermin, rabbit etc ), I've searched and found the map. It doesn't cover the eastern bits...obviously the vermin proof fence , such as it is I imagine, links up.
Thanks :))

Viv,

The only problem with your attempt was not really your fault.

When you select the "Insert Link" button, the display has the beginning of the url already in the box. (http:\\)

Simply highlight this and then "paste" or over type with the full url you are trying to add.

Ta Doug, I wondered myself how it was done. Still learning this internet stuff. Not easy for an old dog to learn new tricks.

Thanks Doug & Sandman,

That will be a real help. I've been a bit wary of trying before.

AS stated above the Dingo fence starts out on the darling downs.

The Rabbit Fence starts on the gold coast and is in effect the border fence. It is not continuous and has breaks in Lamington National Park. The fence starts again at Nungulba (border ranges) and then found at Lions Road, Lindsay Border Gate, Wallangarra etc but it takes shortcuts in places and does not strictly follow the border.

There used to be a lot of people employed to maintain the rabbit fence but I don't think it is maintained now or only short sections.

Thanks Alan, your post appeared as I was writing the above.
Sounds like I was substantially correct in my thinking. The publicity people have taken liberties again. :)

James Woodford has written a book called The Dog Fence. Starts on the Bight near Ceduna & finishes 5,400kms away in Fletchers Lane near Jandowae. Permission from 3 states & many private landowners is required to travel along the road that follows the fence. Cheers from Heather who grew up where WA's Rabbit Proof Fence was begun - Burracoppin on the Great Eastern Highway.

John I figure that would be a very interesting trip if permission could be obtained.
