Evening or Morning Folks....
While doing a little further research and using Google Earth to locate potential tracks across the Tiari Desert, memories of another place came to mind and so pan left and up I go with Google Earth.
Many of us have probably stood on the
bridge to "knowhere" just west of
Timber Creek in the Territory.
The one that must have cost millions to build, the one with the nice
gate (locked) on the other side of the
Victoria River. The one with the wonderfully paved road up into the surrounding hills.
Now I am not suggesting that someone has influence on Google but sure does look to me that the sat pics are edited, just a little.
Mind you if one looks for Pine Gap, some tracks also vanish.
So, to my enquiry.. what is at 15 degrees 35 minutes 15 seconds S by 130 degrees 27 minutes 13 seconds E ?
The sign at the
bridge (15, 36, 50, 25 S x 130, 24, 27, 58 E says Defence Dept.
Ok back to trying to find the
ruins at Poonarunna
Bore for me

The apprent editing you can see is where an old photo of the area meets a more recent photo. On the section that is still the old photo with dirt road, you can see that there is a carpark/ hard standing area.

That's what the locals told us when we were up there as
well. Yank base originally don't know if it still is.

New road.
If you follow the road from the
bridge you will see that when it crosses into the next image the road is unsealed. When it pops back down it is sealed again. Happens at the end of the road just past the buildings.
Indicates that the upper image is a fair bit older than the lower one and therefore does not show the road.
