Hi everybody!!

My initial intention about my itinerary was:
Start point: 80 Miles Beach
Kidson Track
Well 33 - Kunawarritji
Gary hwy
Gunbarrel hwy
Neale Junction
Anne Beadell hwy
Tallaringa Track
"Meeting" with Stuart hwy
...
Sydney

As everybody know in this forum, I will carry water with me (aprox 50-60l). I will do it alone. And I will start in October. Yes, I know that is late, but I don't have another chance. I want to pass the most difficult part before December and January, when the weather will be very hot.

A lot of people write in my old post that the Simpson desert is impossible. Ok.

Now, please, I want to ask to everybody, what is the Itinerary that you would take from the west coast to the east coast, by gravel tracks??

Thanks again in advance. This forum is very useful!!

To a foreign tourist I would recommend this.Perth to Adelaide via Highway 1.Adelaide to Sydney via Barrier Hwy, then east. All on the bitumen, in a car, with an air conditioner and a friend. That's if you want to do it quick and live to tell your mates.

Your idea of a solo trek across the inland desert country as previously detailed is shear foolishness and probably a 90+% chance of ending in tragedy.

Hi everybody!!

Please, look the next links:

http://wildworks.co.nz/csr/home.php

A polish guy did the CSR alone and by bike. Incredible pics on sandy tracks.

Other link of a germans in Birdsville track in January:

Another alone cyclist in the outback:

Well, nothing is impossible (in my opinion). I want just to know the best variant. Please, could you help me with my itinerary, or give other variant.

Thanks a lot!!!

As a start point, why not Broome then east on the Gibb River Road.

Matt.

Tanami track is a gravel road except for a couple of 6.5km stretches.

Even there you are **remote** and well removed from any water... except for Billiluna, Rabbit Flat and Yuendemu... although your progress would be a lot more rapid.

Aclamaciones

Hey Spanno

You are wearing out your welcome here.

Many people have given you lots of advice but you still ignore the fact that cycling in the Outback of Australia in October is not a good thing to do.

But you are persisting with this flawed idea.

And your questions are becoming tiresome.

So I suggest you bugger-off.

In fact, you wrote me in other post:

"The Kidson is OK to ride with not too much sand and few dunes to cross. (In fact there is not so much sand until you reach the Simpson Desert where you will be pushing your bicycle a lot even on the Rig Road)."

No "problem" until Simpson desert??

I understand that Simpson desert is impossible to ride, ok. But what about before Simpson desert (Kidson, Gary, Gumbarrel...). Rideable tracks??

Thanks!!

>I am only asking for information or help. If you mind, please, don't read my messages. That's simple!!<

These are typical childish words over the internet.

You have been told by many informed people on this forum of the dangers of riding your bike in the outback of Australia in the summer months from October to the end of March.

Still you persist with this stupid idea.

In my other reply to you I stated that there was water along the Kidson but south from the Kidson there is not enough water to sustain a lone traveller.

Most extreme activities are doable. The majority of gravel tracks in Western Australia and South Australia are hard surface, corrugated tracks with some sandy sections.

If you are so committed to this venture then you must have the ability to take the time off from April onwards.

If you continue to persist to do an irresponsible act at the wrong time of the year in this country then there are two scenarios which will come to the fore
A. You will die out there
B. You will be rescued by our Emergency Services, deported from Australia and made to pay for the cost of the Search and Rescue.

Like I said before. Come up with a better idea or bugger off.

Cheers

Gaday Mate. During the time you have set aside it would be wise to choose a route that is a little more travelled than your initial itinary thereby giving yourself some backup.
A alternate trip could be Canarvan, Meekatharra, Wiluna, Laverton, Warburton, Kulgera, Finke, Oodnadatta, Lyndhurst, Innamincka, Tiboorburra etc.
This would still be a huge challenge but with alot less sand riding & many more options for picking up water or making repairs along with occational passing traffic.
Cheers Craig.............

All very remote outback roads of which 95% are on gravel, clay or sand. I asume you have a map that shows this?
Many of the reply's you are getting here may not seem to be helpful for three reasons.
1: Some of the people responding have never actually been out to the area you intend to travel & haven't attempted anything remotely challenging in their lives yet somehow think they are qualified to answer.
2: Many of the questions you ask should already be known by someone planning a trip of this scale putting in question your ability to complete it safely.
3: When people say that route is not possible, it's too sandy & there is no water available, they are being very helpful, in fact they may just be saving your life if they can change your mind :-)

Being a cyclist myself I kind of understand your thought process, I too enjoy a physical challenge.
However, I would'nt attempt what you're considering in summer. I work with peolpe who've done all the deserts, not sure what time of year though.
There is a bunch of crazies who do a mountain bike race across the simpson in October. They do however have very strict rules regarding how much they drink, rest etc. They also have 4x4 back up and doctors on board.
Why dont you try and join this mob for the simpson leg.
You could try the various bicycle associations in each state to see if there is some kind of tour happening.
Anyway this is the internet, keep asking questions, eventually you might get the anwser you're after.

Coota,

And in english....

Coota,

this is the terrain you will be crossing. The day time temperature will be 40C. You will spend nearly every moment pushing your bike as you will not be capable of riding through the deep sand. You will also have to break down paniers and remove equipment to carry them seperately up sandhills. You will therefore have to triple the amount of time you need. Police say you don't cross this country after October due to the treacherous conditions. Take heed of the knowledgable advice you've received here.

I am still not convinced that you are genuine about this. If you are genuine, I am happy to help you. It would be reassuring that we weren't wasting our time if you gave us a real name and email contact for the discussion.
Meanwhile, check this site for information on the Simpson desert mtb race. It has photos and other information that you might find thought provoking.

http://www.sdcc.org.au/

And for other 4wdrivers reading this post. Taking part in this event is a great way to do the Simpson in company and have a lot of fun. Probably too late for this year, but if you are interested in being a support vehicle next year, let me know. A couple of posts have queried whether or not this event will be continuing. I checked the Committee and no-one is aware of any discussion re the event not continuing.
