Hi guys, in March my family and I will go for 2 weeks holiday .. finally!!
The plan is to go from Adelaide to Canberra and camp with kids.
I'm looking for ideas and suggestions, best route and maybe where stay ....
thanks!

There are several routes to follow. Going via the Sturt Highway or the Mallee Highway and through Wagga Wagga are both pretty direct but boring. Done both routes and taken 2 days to do each. Going along the Murray and then up through the alpine region via Cooma is probably more interesting but would be longer.
If you want to camp in Canberra there are several good caravan parks, which will put you close to the sights of the city.

For camping in the bush in the ACT see ACT camping areas
I have stayed at all of them except the cotter river campgrounds and the old Kowen Homestead. My personal favourite would be Honeysuckle Creek.

If you want to camp more remotely there is bush camping at flea creek and Macintyres Hut in NSW. These are both accessible only by 4wd. For flea creek see trek notes
Macintyres hut is located at S35°15.960' E148°44.306'.
I've been to both locations as day trips from Canberra, but never camped at either.

Makes the trip a bit longer but a run up through the snowy in spring is better than winter ... IMHO.

Plenty to see and do along the Murray. Easier to keep kids entertained compared to the longer "boring" stretches on other roads.

If you provide an email address I will send you some information on the campsites around Canberra. I'm a local and can give you GPS coordinates etc.

The Cotter Campground is best in terms of easy access to Canberra... a 15 minute drive to all the attractions. There is not much in town at all.

Depending on kids' ages, a couple of days in Echuca could be of interest. We have found Riverside Caravan Park in Queanbeyan a pleasant place to stay - it is an easy drive from main attractions of central Canberra, and the Queanbeyan shopping centre nearby is useful.
