I am driving Sydney to Broken Hill & back late next week in a 2WD with my 2 young daughters. Returning via Griffith & the shortest route is via Menindee, Ivanhoe, then the Mossgiel Trunk Road to Hillston. Any advice on the road conditions for the unsealed road and how I'll go in a 2WD? Thanks.

There has been a bit of rain that way over the last few days.
I would suggest ring someone at Ivanhoe before you attempt that road in a 2WD

Janine

I just had a look on Google Earth and they have driven the Trunk Road and taken a photo every 50 meters.

Here is one of them.

Its almost as good as going out and having a look before you drive there. It won't show recent changes due to rainfall. The black dot on the road is the next camera icon.

Thanks guys.
I did have a look at the road on Google earth & it looks fine but as Dave B said I wouldn't like to chance it after rain in a 2WD.
I'll call Ivanhoe before leaving Broken Hill.
Thanks again.
Cheers

The Broken Hill Tourist information centre will be able to give you up to date information on road conditions.

I have driven that route quite a few times, most recently at Easter this year. I would be more concerned about the road from Menindee to Ivanhoe.

Going Broken Hill, Wentworth and then east to Grfifith will take about 8 hours, going your proposed route should take a bit over 6hours.

as duncs said. i'd worry about the menindee-ivanhoe road, i can be a bit loose and a bit rough. my recommendation would be to go via wentworth along the black top.

as for road conditions you'll need to contact Central Darling Shire Council as it's their roads you'll be on.
