Giday rm,
Was there over the AFL Grand Final weekend.
The
Bullfinch- Evanston Rd is a good drive, lightly corrigated in
places but watch for deep ruts caused by the odd bogged vehicle during last winter.
When you reach the T-
junction with the
Menzies Rd hang a right and about 3kms along the Mt Elvire track is
sign posted to the left. 42 kms of good track to the
homestead. If your travelling later in the day keep an eye out for roos, emus and cattle on the track.
The
homestead consists of a main building, utility shed, donga and a flushing
toilet, all very basic.
Water has to be pumped from the lower to the top
tank if you want a shower. I didnt bother, love not washing or shaving when
camping.
Theres a few tracks to explore in the area, we checked out
old stockyards, tanks,
airstrip and of course Lake Barlee. Just stick to the shore line, a short walk out will soon tell you its no place for a car.
The only track that provided a challenge was the saddle track up to the actual Mt Elvire itself [13kms north of the
homestead] it was steep in
places, very rocky and if you dont mind scratched paintwork, very tight. If your carefull how you place your
wheels, you shouldnt have any dramas.
As the Station is situated on a peninsula its impossible to get lost as all tracks end up at the
homestead.
Caravan will be fine. We had a ball and plan another visit, make sure you
sign the visitors book, interesting reading.
Cheers.....Lionel.

Ron, just a quick after thought.
The donga stands about 50 mts away from the main building, up against an old fence line. There is a large snake [2-2.5 mts] living just over the fence behind the donga.
I like the creatures but dont really know one type from another, the missus who's WA born and bred reckons its a python.
We spotted it several times in the same area over the long weekend but it never ventured into the the
homestead area. [not that I'm aware of].
Must have heard my drunken cussing when
St Kilda got robbed.....lol.
Just be aware incase your carting
young'uns.
Cheers......Lionel.
