At
Litchfield, you might be better to
camp at one of the NP campgrounds further in than
Batchelor, or at the
Litchfield CP, near Wangi.
Unless you are going to try the boat trip on the
Victoria River, there is no need to stay 2 nights at
Timber Creek. 2 or 3 nights at Keep River NP would be much better value - scenery, walks, pleasant campground.
Unless you are intending to do the sunset cruise on
Lake Argyle, you could just drive in and have a look round on your way from Keep River to
Kununurra.
Really recommend you do the boat trip from
Kununurra up the Ord to the Argyle Dam wall - you can do this both ways or combine it with a sunset cruise and bus trip back to
Kununurra.
Although it is not that far from
El Questro, suggest you stay a night or two at Home Valley.
Camp at their
camp by the
Pentecost River - view to die for and the kids will almost certainly see crocs sunning themselves down on the river flats. Great place.
I have never stayed at
Ellenbrae. You could do Home Valley to
Drysdale River in one day.
Take a lot of care doing a day trip to the
Mitchell Plateau. The track can be very difficult and many people who try to do it in one day come to grief because of going too fast. Corners, hazards,
creek dips etc are often not signed in advance and there is the added
hazard of hire vehicles to dodge.
Recommend that, either on way from
Derby, or from
Broome, you try to get up to Middle
Lagoon for a couple of nights. The kids would love walking on the reef exposed there at low tide - magic
rock pool and critters.

Thanks for your detailed reply. It is much appreciated! Have taken onboard your suggestions and agree that we could see
Lake Argyle on the way to
Kununurra (perhaps a nice stop!).
Have had a look at Middle
Lagoon on EO ... it looks lovely, though I couldn't see any directions. Looks like it is a 2-3 hour drive from
Broome, so we would need to go
Derby >
Broome > Middle
Lagoon >
Broome, before continuing south down the WA coast?
I am also wondering if we should give Mitchel Falls a miss. While we are planning to leave the camper at the KE
River campsite, I've heard lots of bad things about the drive up to the falls, so perhaps we will leave it until 'next time' (without kids??).
Sass.

There is a track from the highway between
Broome and
Derby across to the
Dampier Peninsula, but I do not know what it is usually like - maybe ask someone on this
forum about it?
We took our van from
Broome to Middle
Lagoon. From memory, took us about 3 hours, but we did have a good look around
Beagle Bay on the way.
The
Mitchell Falls are great, but really are best done when you can
camp in there for a night or two.
