Hi
Does anyone know if Macintyres Hut in the Brindabellas and Blue
Waterhole campground in the Kosciusko National
Park are likely to be crowded in the second week in January?
Was originally planning on spending time in the Victorian High Country but most of the tracks seem to be closed due to flood damage. The Kosciusko National
Park appears to be largely open, but I havn't found any info on the tracks in the Brindabellas, particularly those leading to Macintyres Hut.
Thanks
Graham

Last I heard...about 3 weeks ago now ...was that most of the tracks in the Brindies were closed indefinately due to severe damage from storms and heavy rain.
there would be a website that would tell you about this I reckon. Just try Google would be a good start.
Sorry I couldnt be more helpfull.
Cheers Keith

I was in the Brindabellas a few months back after a big storm. Trees down all over the place but were being cut out of the way. We must have cut 6 ourselves and people coming in the opposite direction cut about the same they reckoned. The tracks were all pretty good. It's a good place to visit, go up on top of Mt Coree (spelling?) and down to
Flea Creek camp ground as
well. Sorry it's old news. Mike

Hi Graham,
Advice from NSW NPWS on 17th Decemeber
Road closures in
Brindabella National Park
After the heavy rainfalls last week in the
Canberra region the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) has had to close some
trails in
Brindabella National Park.
NPWS Queanbeyan Area
Ranger, Scott
Seymour said the closures will ensure visitor safety and allow NPWS staff time to clear the
trails and undertake maintenance.
“Waterfall, McIntyres and Lowells Flat
trails within the
park are now closed to the public.
“The section of Webbs Ridge Trail between Dingi Dingi Ridge Trail and Folly Trail, along with Coree Summit Trail between Coree Flats and Pabral Trail are also closed.
“After last weeks rain
creek crossings across the
trails have been washed out and there is fallen timber across the
trails in many spots.
“Due to these closures the 4WD
camping areas on the
Goodradigbee River at
McIntyres Hut and Lowells Flat cannot be accessed.
“NPWS staff are
clearing these
trails as a priority and hope to have them open before Christmas.
"People should make every effort to contact the region’s visitor centres to check on local conditions before embarking on trips into national parks.”
For more information on national
park road closures contact the NPWS Queanbeyan Area on ph: 02 6229 7166.
Cheers,
Val

With many of the Murray and the Murrumbidgee
camping areas under
water, large chunks of the Brindabellas and the High Country damaged and closed, floods in central NSW, crowds of people on the coast and stifling heat in western NSW, I think the tent might just be staying in the shed for January.............

Just had a day at
Blue Waterholes and all is open and a bit busy but still a few
camping spots available. Dont expect to be the only one there. We came in from the Snowy Mts Highway onto the
Long Plain Road visited
Blue Waterholes and then went back to
Long Plain Road up to Broken Cart fire trail, Boundary Rd, Barnetts Rd and Micalong Rd until we reached the Brindabella Rd. A very nice drive.
Witnessed a 100 Series Landcruiser "trip and fall" in the ball bearings on the
Long Plain Rd. Take it easy and expect to have oncoming traffic.

Spoke to a policeman from Adelong as he was headed up to
Long Plain to check out that Cruiser on Friday afternoon.
Apparently the radio call had come in that someone had found the vehicle but no occupants.
Any idea what happened?

Hi Graham
Not hijacking your post, but just had a look at the pictures in your "My Profile" and then under your "Forum" pictures. We came across your camel man south of
Hamilton Station this year. We stopped our vehicle when we saw him coming. Managed to get just 3 pictures of him. tried to ask him a few questions, but he did not want to stop. All we could get out of him that he has been on the road for years. From his accent, he was middle European.
Here was what I could get.
Cheers
Stephen

Hi,
We made a trip across the
Simpson Desert early August this year, and came across the camel man just south of Mount Dare, said he was coming from
Alice Springs and heading to lake eyre to see it in flood. he said he had been trekking around with his camels for 20 years, had a chat for a few minutes then he was on his way.
(sorry bout the links i cant work out how to get the pics to show up) !!
cheers,
Will
