Just came over the radio that the Barrier Highway
bridge at
Cockburn is expected to be open in about 2 weeks.
The road between
Broken Hill and Olary is closed until then.
The only option from
Broken Hill to
Adelaide or Pt
Augusta is via
Wentworth -
Renmark.

We walked over the
bridge on the Barrier Hwy yesterday. You can see a dip in the guard rail on the left side where the road way has sunk.

Thank you Andrew for the photo. As I've said in another thread, I'm due in
Cockburn on the night of April 2 to cross the
bridge on April 3. I hope they haven't run out of beer.

Bugger, I was due to cross it next Sunday on my way to the
Simpson Desert, looks like a long detour via
Wentworth, unless the road via
Loch Lilly on the border to Oakvale in SA is open, anyone know?

Today we were told that the Barrier Highway will be open again on March 16th.
There will be a temporary structure over the top of the damaged
Pine Creek bridge at
Cockburn.

according to an ABC report on 9 March the road should be open now

can anyone confirm that
we are leaving from
Sydney on 19 March to head to
Perth and would prefer to go through
Broken Hill than through all the water down the Riverina way

As reported on the ABC and another post in the
forum on this subject, the Barrier Highway was opened at 5PM.
