Hi all,
I'm after some info on the campsites in the Brindabellas. Is the campsites crowded over the Christmas/New Year period? We are trying to decide where to go over this period. We have at this stage three families with 2 kids under three months, both due mid October and three others under 4 years. We are looking at setting up a base camp and doing day trips around the surrounding area. We possibly would look at the High Country if any one has a better location. We were thinking of camping close to some sort of facilities ie drop toilets for SWMBO,
Any ideas would be appriciated (spelling)

Cheers Kev

Kev, i have found the Brindabellas always crowded with only a handful of good camping sites in peak times. Apart from that, there is plenty to explore and some awsome trails to tackle, some almost to steep for the most capable vehicle to climb. If you have a Patrol you will be ok LOL!!!!

Michael,
Between the group of us there will be 2 Tritons and 1 landcruiser
So I guess that we'll spend most of our time recovering the cruiser.
No doubt I'm going to cope some flack

Nice camp at Brindabella (along the creek), Flea Creek, McIntyres Hut and Wee Jasper - Wee Jasper being the only one with toilets.

www.lcool.org under the trips page has a stack of trip reports from the Brindies, including Track Files for OziExplorer.

Bendethera is another great spot to go as is Shallow Crossing (both have toilets)

Have a look at the TREKS section - there is a series of Treks to follow and camp sites to use.

Afternoon Kev M...
We have adopted a place down just out of Moruya called Potatoe point. It has basic facilities such as hot showers, toilet but no power. We also have young kids and they love it... there's lots of wildlife such as Walabies Roos etc that the kids can hand feed etc. (not that your meant too) . Heres their link..

Evening Boo,
Thats the best thing about this site, The diverse people that contribute to it.
I had never heard of Potatoe Point, I'll have to make some calls over the next few days to see what the others think about going there instead.
Do you know if there is any 4wd tracks that are accessible in the area?
I don't think I will be allowed (SWMBO won't let me) to do overly difficult tracks since she reckons that she won't be in any state to. I thought that about 2-3 months after giving birth she would be right though.
But who knows maybe the fellars could do them without the girls.

How long does it take you from the ACT to get there? the site says 2.5hours but you mentioned that you have kids so is that accurate?
It may end up being a central point that we could all met up at as we are from Canberra, Albury, Sydney and Narooma.

Thanks for the info
Kev

From memory yes about 2.5hr from Belconen side, it may be slightly longer... Yes we do have kids, 4 of the little rats not that two of them are that little any more... 20 and 22... the youngest are 11 and 12. Your groups older kids may be a bit young but if not dont forget to take their bikes , its fantastic for the littlies to ride around on the grass and just over in the bush is a small bmx bike track that ther've put in(only basic but great fun for them). There are lots of little tracks heading off into the bush areas around there , not too sure how good they are, we;re generaly too busy doin nothin and watchin the kids with all the wildlife which generaly consists of baby wallabies and a few emues, possums and goannas all of which you can safely feed from your chair plus there's the beach which is part of the campground.
As for meeting up with every one it sound like a great reasnobly central ish location, we generaly meet up with other family and friends from Nowra there. We have done several day trips from there and gone further down the coast as far as Merimbular and checked out all the little bush tracks going down to the coast for future camping spots.
If you can talk the rest into it , you wont be disapointed its fantastic..

Also.. all the best for the new rugrat next month, you'll have to have a bit of a celebration with their frst camping expedition.

Thanks for the follow up Boo,
I have just got a reply from Neil at beachcomber and their booked solid until the 9th of Jan, so we may have to juggle work and go a bit later that anticipated. I'm sure the kids will enjoy the interaction with the animals (me included after a big night).
