Paul
I am going to
longreach in a few weeks and would like to see some sites on the way back. I have a 4x4 and have about 3-4 days to get back to
brisbane. Fishing spots would also be appreciated. My prefered route is through central QLD.

There is a good free
campsite at
Lloyd Jones Weir which lies 14km south of
Barcaldine. Could even catch a Yella-belly there in the Alice River. Visit the Jackie Howe Museum at
Blackall. Drop in to the Teddy Bear Factory at
Tambo. Spend a day at Caranarvon
Gorge and enjoy some spectacular canyon walks. Or relax at the Hot Springs at
Mitchell where the first 2 nights camping are free at the Council Caravan Park. Just some ideas. Happy travellingCheers, Willem
Never a dull moment

Jericho up from
Blackall is something special. Was the end of the Cobb & Co run and has heaps of interesting things. Great feed at the pub and my tour passengers always love
Jericho. There is nowhere in Australia like
Jericho. You have not travelled if you have not been to
Jericho.

The way to go to
Jericho would be from
Barcaldine to
Jericho and then to
Blackall.
The
Blackall Adavale road is something different as
well. Do not do it if it is bucketing rain you will be
well bogged. Much of interest along that road and again, a bit off the beaten track without being to adventurous and you will see other traffic on that road. I take the tour bus down that road as long as it is not raining.

Paul,
Some specatular country around
Springsure too. Think there is a Nat. Park or two near there. Blackbutt(?) Nat. Park near
Bluff would be worth a look, an escarpment like you'd see in
Kakadu. Looks good from Capricorn Hwy. Highway from
Theodore to
Taroom, then
Miles has some good scenery. Hooroo...

Thanks everyone - sounds like 4 days isn't enough. Should be a good start though.
