G'day Steve,

We've been in Tas for >6 years (moved from Kalgoorlie WA) and have actually seen bugger-all, but here are just a couple of POI:

We've been to these places (and many more):

1 .Cradle Mt National Park (need a Parks Pass, best left for winter)
2. Liffey Falls (beautiful place especially in the winter, (pass?)
3. Cataract Gorge, Launceston
4. The Devil Park, Mole Creek

I'm sure that people will mention many more places (and better ones).

Unfortunately, you're coming in the ugly months as it is very dry and not as green as you might expect.

Just my 2c worth.

Cheers.

Nev has given you a good start! When at Port Arthur, I suggest you make a slight detour and also visit the Coal Mines Site and ruins. They are just as interesting.

Also check out the rock formations at Eaglehawk Neck area.

Hi Steve

Fabulous place. So much to see - our seven weeks gave us only a 'taste' of what Tasmania has to offer. My reports are in MyBlog.

Steve, David has now fixed my Blogs so the attachments open - although as Norm discovered, one is still missing. I can always send any selected reports by email, which come with additional info.

All the above. And if you fish and have a boat, Cockle Creek in the deep South of the island is a good free camp, and worth a few days. The whole Island is great. Enjoy.

Remember to get suck into the oysters---about $6-$8 a dozen at most of the oyster farms of which there are many.

cadbury factory!!
went there when I was 12...did a big loop..took 10 days...did al the touristy things.....PLEASE AVOID that big river cruisey thing on the west coast....its as boring a duck sh7!!!!

freycinet peninsula??? I think its wine glass bay there too with the 3 peak mountains.....that was pretty nice

there is also a devils table to go see too somewhere down near port arthur....I remember the Pajero (being almost brand new) was coated in mud....not a clean square inch!

uuuum....apparently there are the elephant pancakes somewhere on the east coast....us kids got car sick and we never went but I remember looking forward to it and being let down!!

also just near launceston there are some caves to go see....we still had our sea legs and wobbly boots on!!

camped at tat famous lake (tired brain not thinking!) - the cradle mountain place....the big walk over ot the next place near it is also.

hope this helps!!

Sadly they no longer do tours at the Cadbury factory :-<

Don't forget to have a feed of crayfish in Bicheno. Also a good place to do a Fairy Penguin tour.

If you have the time and cash,at Coles Bay there is a quadbike adventure tour ( All 4 Adventure Tours) .........no affiliation.

Have done the tours with them twice. The half day one is good, gets you to places not normally accessible to the public.

A night in the van park at Wayatinah is good too ( on the way to Queenstown) big lake with platypus to see if you're lucky and heaps of trout.Big swimming pool, which in Feb can be an absolute blessing. One day I was there late last January and got to 42 Deg. Did a LOT of swimming that day!

Just make sure to leave enough travelling time to go places.Distances here are deceiving on a map. Most Tasmanians can tell you how long it will take you to get somewhere not how far it is.
Safe travelling!
