User Treks: Creating, Saving, Editing or Uploading

Friday, Mar 29, 2013 at 19:17

There are two ways that site users can save or create User Treks. Your User Treks will appear both in the ExplorOz User Treks system (for download by other Members), and on the designated tab in your Public Profile Page. They can also be embedded into your Blogs to show a route which matches your blog content.

Saving an EOTrackMe Track

EOTrackMe is a tracking service available to ExplorOz Members with a compatible device. For ease of viewing and use, tracks should be periodically saved in a way that makes sense to you but also keeps the file sizes relatively small. For example, rather than waiting until you have completed your lap of Australia and saving a very large track, you could save the tracking by state, or region. To save your EOTrackMe file, all you need to do is click on the "My Tracking" tab on your Public Profile Page, under the Active Tracking heading you will see the current tracking for your device/s, click on Save whenever you want to convert your tracking to a User Trek.

Editing a Saved User Trek

If you are the owner of a User Trek, you can edit your Trek to remove any incorrect/unwanted Trek Points. To do this, open the User Treks page, then click on My User Treks and click to select the relevant file. This will open your Trek record, open the Map tab to view the Trek route. Click on the Trek route and an option to Edit Route Points will appear - click on this button, and you will see a list of all route points, the arrow symbol will take you to a specific points' location on the route, and the rubbish bin symbol will allow you to delete this point.

Uploading a Track File

If you are a user of OziExplorer, Trackranger, or any other mapping software program that can create a track file (also known as plot or .plt file) or a GPX file, you can upload saved files directly to User Treks. To upload your track file, simply click on the Add New User Trek button, an upload screen will open and you can then select a GPX or PLT file saved on your computer to upload.
