As a publisher, we have certain contract regulations with regard to site content.

We wish to remind our Forum users that you must not post content on any part of our website (including the Friday Funny post) that breaches our site Terms of Use.

We particularly draw your attention to the type of jokes that you select for posting in the Friday Funnies and remind you that you must not post content with adult themes, pornography, adult or mature content.

Yesterday's FF post was flagged with a significant number of textual and image based jokes that did not comply with this policy and had to be removed.

Please remember that ExplorOz is not listed as a adult site so you must be very careful to avoid jokes with adult themes.

Thanks for your attention going forward.
Please note, we have updated the Friday Funny Rule to include this particular issue to ensure it is as clear as possible. Please take a moment to refresh yourself of the Forum Rules and the site Terms of Use if you haven't recently.

Good on you Michelle; there is enough rubbish flying around the internet these days without us adding to it :-)

You don't have to read it.

johnat, understand where you are coming from, however someone who does read it, may find it offensive, report it to the authorities, and the site will then be shut down. That is why there are rules governing this.

This is funny, Michelle. I was just looking at a post on directions to the Tassie Ferry, and in the 'Popular Content" below was the headline "I bonk my wife for 3 hours" and a picture of a strawberry, which I am sure was not intended to be a picture of a strawberry. The porn gods are working against you on this one :)

I must admit that I have been surprised by the content of some of the site sponsors’ advertisements!

The Popular Content ad-box works much like all parts of the Google ad system in that it targets ads to you based on your previous web browsing history and demographics so it will present you with ads to follow on from previous sites or themes of sites you have been using - with a mix of ads thrown in to direct you to other page content on ExplorOz.

Please alert me the instant you see any inappropriate ad content as I have an ad console to block any ads that have slipped through the content filters and can immediately block them from appearing on our site. I am currently looking for the one that has been mentioned and I cannot believe that someone would re-post it here in this post of all things - I did not see it until now, and seems neither did the moderators.

Can't believe that people didn't realise that the ads that appear are largely individual and based on their own previous browsing.

So if Bloggs sees an unsavoury ad on EO brought about by his browsing history elsewhere, will he be the only one that sees it?

Yes Frank that's right. The ad slots in websites (including ours) are not served by the site publisher so what appears in those slots varies per user as it uses the learning of the ad-server program and the advertisers targeting methods which are quite complex...they can target ads to people based on location, age, interests, cookies, remarketing, site targeting and lots more. All out of our control and all independent to you as an individual. Same thing happens on all sites and social media.

So to some extent advertising should be sort of self regulating, as your history will determine what you see?

But I can certainly see how exploroz need to keep an eye on things.
Tough job!!

Also have been a bit surprised with some of the “Friday funnies” content, as in inappropriate or rude, and I’m no prude! But there’s definitely a limit on such a public site.
So Friday funnies contibuter’s keep it nice.

Do the above replies mean that anyone who saw the strawberry add or any other offensive adds have brought it on themselves by their previous browsing history?
I can't for the life of me imagine what I browsed to bring that up. Seems pretty sus to me

Did you actually see the ad on this site before it was mentioned? Or did you see the picture that was posted?

The sense of humour is a purely a personal one , just as some of the advertising and holier than thou 'expert' forum discussions offend the sensibilities no amount of 'terms & conditions' will change human nature , after all it is the internet and no-one is forced to read / look at what is portrayed thereon - switch on - off is 1 click away .

With you 100% Michelle. It must be a constant pain to feel that you have to monitor each and every post.
It's only a very small number who transgress thank goodness.
Love the website and please keep on keeping on.

Cheers

I thought for one moment - when I spotted that photo of Trump - that this was being put up, as typical of the style of undesirable content, in the Funnies page!! [;-)

Cheers, Ron.
